jeebowhite
James, glad to hear you may be getting it sorted with Adrian Flux. Is that with the Ford Owners Club Insurance scheme? They had my details from the last quote, and juts asked "am I still a member of a driving club" didn't specify FOC, but I replied yes so it must have still worked out lol I'm 19 with 1 years no claims....Direct line offered me a renewal of £2500, UP from £1800! ended up paying £700 with admiral. !Removed! scandalous! Admiral were good to me for the last 4 years, but now... when they want to charge me more than they have done for the last year or two, I think they can take a long wander from a short pier! I'm 38, 8 years NCD, insurance is somewhere around £350/year. One minor accident in 2008 - my fault (ish)*, my insurance co paid out over two grand to him, and all it was, was a scuff on the front bumper! Half of that was the cost of a courtesy car for him, while his own car was fixed. What happened was, I followed an old bloke driving a Rover 200, into a petrol station. Instead of driving forward to the front pump, he stopped at the first one he passed. I chuntered to myself and stuck it in reverse, completely unaware that a Vectra had since rucked up behind me, right into my blind spot (I was sort of at an angle to get alongside the pump as you have to go into the garage, then turn 90 degrees). I bumped him at about 3mph. This whole insurance lark is a scam. I offered to pay for the repair without going thru insurance.... until his insurance co rang me and asked me if I was going to give the other bloke two grand! Here's my reply, with the expletives edited out; " ". So to summarise, no damage whatsoever to my Focus, two grand's worth to his Vectra! Sounds about right for a vectra, they arent built as well as the Omega's they took over. James I think your insurance is cheap... Sent from my GT-I9300 using Ford OC mobile app Kurt, your right, I guess in a weird way it is! but when I know people of the same circumstance and with the same sort of car and policy paying just over half of what I am paying in the new year... it just seems like they want my trousers down! I've been quoted £900 for a new fiesta st with the mp215 kit.. I live on a council estate, no driveway or garage, commute to work in rush hour every day, have a 2 year old, and I'm 18 with 1 years ncb... why is yours so high lmao? Although Adrian flux quoted over £5k for my current car :S Sent from my GT-I9300 using Ford OC mobile app I havent a clue Becca, but you did well to get your rate. Again, more of an example of why insurance is "pick a number and multiply by 10", your in the high risk catagory anyway due to your age, then your high risk as you have a child, and now your going for an ST remap which should push you into the "errrr..... how long till you wrap it around a tree?" bracket (not a comment on your driving, but from the insurance perspective, these are the questions they ask and the categories they think of!) and your paying less than I did for the first 4.5 years of my driving career! and I wasnt driving an ST, or had kids, or had any want to modify it :p
BeccaaCat
Exactly lol they do just pick it at random! In theory my insurance should be some completely hideous number where I should only be able to drive a smart car lol but it's actually good! Possibly because you're male? Despite what they say they're still biased towards men lol Sent from my GT-I9300 using Ford OC mobile app

mixmasterlooney
But she's a girl and whatever the insurance companies say they get it cheaper This. Even though 2012 saw new eu rules that said insurance companies were no longer aloud to give women cheaper car insurance based on their reproductive system as that would be sexist, women still today get cheaper insurance than men. Adding a female named driver despite previous claims can actually lower your insurance rather than increase it. I use my mum for this exact reason, named driver! It makes a huge difference Sent from my GT-I9300 using Ford OC mobile app
jeebowhite
Might add my wife on as a named, but she doesnt have a license... I wonder.... :p Its ludicrous, sadly the bias is still there, what this means though is that you cant have sheila's wheels, bragging "we insure you for next to nothing 'cos your a woman" whereas now they have to sell it as "we insure you for next to nothing, if you are a really good driver, and just happen to have long hair and lady parts, then we like you more, so we will quietly offer you a discount on your overall price, because you called at "just" the right time when we had a 2 minute discount.

Policy was £60 cheaper with her on it. Go figure.

Jroberts
Well I'm 22, I passed in August of 2013 and I was driving a R reg 1.2 Corsa breeze which was £115 per month but...That got wrote off after the first month, insurance said it was my fault, Now am driving this R reg 1.6 Zetec'd Escort and it's £223 per month, Was gonna get an Adam Jam 1.2 from new but asked my insurance how much it would cost to insure that monthly...They said £223 per month, So obviously numbers indeed, How can they insure me in a 1.6 the same as they could in a 1.2, My Escort has double the horsepower! mixmasterlooney
I wonder if it would be considered insurance fraud to have a S3X change whilst changing nothing but your title whats the law on that. luke.grimbley
I was £700 paying monthly at 20 years old and 2 years NCD. Thought that wasn't too bad for a 2.0 pertol, business use, 15k a year and parked on a drive way. Especially the amount of stolen cars in Aberdeen in the past year or so. That's with my Mum and my Partner as named drivers too. It's all a con because it's compulsory so we all need it, they have us by the balls because there are no regulations on pricing. I think there should be official limits into what they can charge us.
Hyrule
The lack of regulation is also a big reason why there are so many uninsured drivers. It's ironic, you cannot get a VED disc without a valid MOT. But neither checks for valid insurance? With my previous car 1.8 Golf Mk3, 1996, admiral tried to increase my premium on renewal from a respectable £500 p/a to nearly £800. No accidents, almost 3 years NCB. I put my details in on their website and a new quote came out at £400. I phoned to cancel, explained why, they dropped the renewal to £400 as gesture of goodwill. I was like !Removed! cheek. iamspeed
So, car insurance due renewal - my company wanted over £700! Stuff that! Did a bit of searching and found a policy for just over £400, and I hate it! I'm 25! I was hoping for a darned site lower than this by now... I am even willing to remove my modifications just to keep the price at rock bottom! Keeping them on there would cost me £700+ and that was outside of the insurer I currently use, and with Adrian Flux with my members discount :( Click here, I know yepmarket provides online quotes for someone who are 25. Haven't used them since I am old enough but hopefully it'll help you somehow.
BigD
Just had the renewal through for my stepdaughter's 'ped insurance (she's 17 now). Last year, when she was 16, the insurance was £30/month. This year, £26/month! Expected it to drop way more than that with a year's NCB. So I went to GoCompare, got last years quote, revised it with 1 year's NCB, guess what? Cheapest quote was £16/month - with the same insurer! If that's not a scam then I don't know what is. How many folks would just let it renew automatically cos they can't be bothered of going through the hassle of setting up a new policy elsewhere? I wonder if it would be considered insurance fraud to have a S3X change whilst changing nothing but your title whats the law on that. In the modern world a trans gender can have opposite parts to what they are, how does that work??? Sent from my GT-I9300 using Ford OC mobile app To be fair, you can recognise yourself as a woman. marginely off topic yet not - there was a young woman who was on "The Voice" recently by the name of James, recognised herself as a woman, but of course all else was that of her natural birth gender. To be fair, I cant see how the insurers or any other party could argue this with you without taking it to court?! Click here, I know yepmarket provides online quotes for someone who are 25. Haven't used them since I am old enough but hopefully it'll help you somehow. Sadly I am of that age now where I wouldnt be able to benefit from their specialist "under 25" offer... :( Perhaps I should have resigned myself to never aging from the age of 24, perhaps I would have gotten away with it! Just had the renewal through for my stepdaughter's 'ped insurance (she's 17 now). Last year, when she was 16, the insurance was £30/month. This year, £26/month! It really is a taking the mick excercise! I dont know how its even regulated, but half the time I am sure it isnt. As far as I am concerned, I believe that ALL insurance quotes should have a breakdown at the end of the quote of the following nature - this would make more trust for the public and would make it harder for them to take the mick! Total Cost: £1000 Breakdown - £100 - Insurance Tax £50 - our "Fine" for accident in the last 5 years £500 - Cost of this particular vehicle to be insured £300 - Driver Risk - Aged 18 with no NCB (this should be a slider so that your age combined with your NCB should take the cost down as far as I am concerned!) £50 - Service fee's Then when you go for renewal, you might get a different quote: Total Cost: £880 Breakdown - £100 - Insurance Tax £30 - our "Fine" for accident in the last 5 years £400 - our Cost of this particular vehicle to be insured £300 - Driver Risk - Aged 18 with no NCB (this should be a slider so that your age combined with your NCB should take the cost down as far as I am concerned!) £50 - Service fee's Clearly you see there is a difference as to why you are bent over and you can decide who you want to go to based on their service offerings as well as the breakdown. I personally believe that the insurance market needs to be made more transparent as many other sectors are being forced, and something like this is essential to allow it! jeebowhite
Car insurance upped for the mondeo, oddly AF are charging me another £256 for the privelage, still makes it just under £660 for the year, which is much cheaper than my renewals, although I am a tad disappointed! I didnt expect it to go up by much but thats over 50% :(
ed12
My renewal was £3272.18, 10 mins on the phone and it was down to £828.50. Ridiculous.
kristriple
I'm 28, the missus is 32. £267 for a year on the Evo fq-330 we pick up at the end of the month. There is £10 difference between it and the Mondeo 2.5T we have. Makes no sense. They charge whatever the feel like. jeebowhite
Sometimes though, you really have to wonder what calculation is used - Age x car age % NCB x 1000? I mean, how is it you can buy a new, safer car, with no difference on price comparisons, have everything else about you and the cars location, workplace etc the same, and then have absolutely nothing to benefit from it, but a sting in the tail, whilst someone more at risk with a more likely to kill them car, can drive around for peanuts? I'm now paying £660 for a group 7 insurance car, with 1 fault accident, 1 non fault (even though it has to be recorded as fault, until I provide written insurance provided evidence to the contrary), yet, I know people who drive class 10 or 12 cars, less than my age, with no NCB, car tarted to the aerial in mod's and they pay £500? it honestly makes no sense.
