More Starting Issues!

Having changed my starter motor and fully charged the battery. All was well until a couple of days later. I came out to start the car and is struggled to turn over and the dails on the dash went completely clockwise. Eventually the would turn over. This morning it did the same but I have noticed smoke coming off the battery terminals (positive side) and it was very hot (blister to prove). Gents is this a battery issue as I think there may be a bigger issue! Oh the car will turn over ok providing its within a couple of hours

Thanks

Hello Owensy. I'm a newbie and have been reading about your starter dilemma. I'm not sure if you mentioned it but what engine is yours?? If it's the 2.0Ltr Diesel then it might be worth checking for Flywheel dust clogging up the Starter, which will eventually cause it to fail. Was the old one 'coked' up at all?? If this has been mentioned already then I apologize!! Hope this might help!!

Yeah mine is the 2.0 diesel. There was no gunk on the old starter motor but im worried that it may be the DMF which will cost nearly as much as I paid for the car!

I hope it isnt though!

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul. Yeah I'm going down that very road with my new purchase. 2004 2.0ltr TDCI. Occasionally the starter will scream and not do anything. Then it will start. But my clutch pedal is very low and there's a bit of a knock as you change gear so I'm getting both Starter and Clutch fitted. Although I'm going for the cheaper option of a Single Mass Flywheel conversion so here's hoping that works out okay!! Anyway hope you get yours sorted out as well mate.

Chris
