There is little to worry about on the bodywork front - the main things to look for will depend on what engine you're after.

Petrol or diesel? 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.5?

Both cars are TDi. 2010 is 1.8 & 2009 is 2 litre. Both have mileage around 50K.

Bodywork should ok as you get parking sensors front & rear, I'd say go for the 2.0 TDCI good alrounder.

As has been said, the 2.0 is a much better buy than the 1.8.

Common things to check for are blowing exhaust at the backbox, difficulty starting, flatspots on acceleration & juddery clutch.

1.8 engine will be working a hell of a lot more, remmember the smax weighs a lot.

also iirc the timming belt on a 1.8 needs changing sooner then the 2ltr.
