Hi, Having a problem with my 2006 1.6tdci Ford Focus I am getting the following error,

Code: P2458 - Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Duration

Any ideas on how to fix this, I assume the large quantity of black smoke coming from my exhaust has something to do with this ?

Thanks

take it for a italian tune down ur local dual carridge way/ 70mph zone, keep it in 4th doing 70 for a few mile to get it hot enough to burn the rubbish in ur system..... oh it wouldnt help to check the level of elios fluid..... if im correct the container should be around the drivers side rear axle area.. hope this helps...... also the 1.6 tdci benifits from regular oils changes, due to having problems with the oil feed to the turbo........

a long run open road needed at least once a week...... diesels like to be driven hard... well mine does anyway lol

Thanks Marty, I gave it a good run earlier and had it plugged in and performed a Static DPF regeneration

But the sheer amount of black smoke has me worried, any suggestions ?

black smoke = unburnt fuel.. running rich.... check ur air filter to see if its needs changing....

Black Smoke -
this is the most common one and is really just an imbalance in the air
to fuel ratio - too much fuel to not enough air. This means either too
much fuel is being added to the mix or there's not enough oxygen being
supplied to burn the fuel. The black smoke is full of particulates that
are basically large diesel particles that normally would be burned as
fuel. Any way you look at it, a diesel emitting black smoke is not
going to be getting the optimal fuel mileage it should be getting.

Most common causes of black smoke are faulty injectors, a faulty
injector pump, a bad air filter (causing not enough oxygen to be
supplied), a bad EGR valve (causing the valves to clog) or even a bad
turbo
