Steering Alignment?

I'm really enjoying my Focus since I got it a couple of weeks ago, but there's one major thing spoiling it for me - The steering. It constantly wants to turn left... not just a little bit either - if you let go, you're trundling towards the hedges immediately. I could live with that, if that's all it was, but it's not, because it ruins everything. Turning left is fine, but turning right is like trying to do a loop-de-loop in a Boeing 747 - it's a real battle (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration, but you understand what I mean - it's entirely spoilt).

So I had a quick thumb through the Haynes manual, which said the only adjustment that can be made to the alignment is the toe angle. Would it be the toe angle causing this problem? I wouldn't have thought so, but I could be wrong (there's a first time for everything, I suppose :P ).

What do you guys think I should do?

I think you should take it somewhere and get the wheel alignment checked. Because to me it sounds like [at least] the tracking is WAY off. But if it's as bad as that then you could have a bent track rod (which can happen if you ever kerbed it at any significant speed), or some other problem with the wheel/steering assembly.

Yes, I'm waiting patiently for my dad to have a look at it, which will be when he "gets time" (i.e. some time between now and the end of time). I can only do so much work to the car myself, as I'm somewhat disabled. But If there's a part that needs replaced, I'd rather know, order the part, and have it sitting ready to be fixed for when my dad gets around to it. I've never knocked the kerb at all in it, but I can't say too much for the previous owner (who was apparently Brendan Rodgers' (of LFC fame) niece).

Does sound like tracking.

Get a garage or at a push QwikFit (aargh) to stick their alignment sensors on the wheels and check.

My car mightn't be worth much, but it's never going to put an inch into a Kwik Fit garage

How much would normally be charged for having the super-duper laser alignment machine put onto my car?

Best to ring a few to get the best price tbh.

Cheers. I'll maybe leave it until I'm getting to tyres changed - they'll need done fairly soon anyway.

I got a full 4-wheel alignment done at Bush Tyres (I think they're only in Lincolnshire) for £90.

Careful! ;)

Yes, I'm in the North. In south Antrim. About 2 miles West, and I'm in South Co. LondonDerry.

Goodness, that's a little steep, wouldn't you think? Maybe I've just considerably underestimated the value of the service?

Yeah, that's kind of what's to be expected when there's a disagreement on what it's called, I suppose. It's an odd place, Northern Ireland, to say the least

It's known as a lot of things, yes  Some people get really annoyed about it. I've got bigger things to worry about, if I'm honest

Check out alignmycar.co.uk to see where the nearest hunter pro align specialist is, most will charge for a check or have a set rate for front and rear adjustment but ask to see what the vehicle is currently doing before they adjust it as u may only need the front toe adjusting.
