alexandjen
Cheers iNath, Is there anything in the drum help the car brake or not? Cheers Yes, brake shoes that push against the drum to slow the car down and hold the car stationary when the hand brake is applied
AdamC11
Cheers alexandjen. When do the brake shoes need replacing? Cheers
D13 HPD 95
Id say normally around 30-40,000 miles they dont wear that much tbh as its 70/30 braking so the fronts do all the work really, my car has done 38,000 and the rear shoes in the drums are still in good condition Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
AdamC11
The reason im asking. I had new pads and discs fiited and when i brake it sounds like its metal touching metal. Any ideas? Cheers
D13 HPD 95
You get that with new pads and discs until the pads are worn in 100miles should be enough with general braking, also the outside of the pads should have had a little copper slip applied to them to top them being squeaky (on the outer side not the acc pad) If you still think its the shoes jack the rears up take the wheels of and the drum lid comes of with two bolts and you can see the shoes and how much meat they have left and if there is more than around 4-6mm id say your fine m8 and make sure its got even wear too, and no major dents or marks on the inner lip on the lid then its fine Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app

Nighthawk
How have you been braking? Whilst bedding in its best to brake carefully or you may end up with uneven wear or warped discs. AdamC11
Will do. Is there a possibility they could have moved or not been fitted right? Cheers
AdamC11
Hi Guys, Car has been into ford today. The guy has had all the wheels off and says he couldn't find anything. It quite possible it could have been brake dust. P.S. No charge
