Defrost Steam On The Front Windshield

Hey All,

I've read in the car manual but didn't see any relevant information there.

Often enough,

When I enter my car I have steams on the front windshield.

So I put on the defrost mode

but the truth is I don't understand if I should put on cold or hot?

or any other configuration.

It takes several minutes until I can even start driving.

The steams are not disappearing as fast as as I want.

Would love to hear your feedback and what you suggest to do

in order to maximize the front windshield steam defrost procedure.

Thanks guys,

You are the best :)

If you mean condensation on the inside, then set it to hot.

If you have quickclear windscreen that will help clear it quicker. Also turning the A/C on can help as it will dry the air coming through,

If you haven't got a quick clear windscreen then temperature set to max, recirc on to help warm up speed, fan to max and as said above - air con will de-humidify the air so should help it to clear much faster.

If you suffer with bad condensation on the screen then I'd take a look under your floor mats to see if you have water lying in there and check your door seals/rubbers are intact.

As Alex and Alex said :). For maximum demisting turn on A/C (if you have it), set vents to blow at the windscreen, max heat and max fan speed until the windscreen clears. If the windows are misting up too then direct some air to those as well.

I forget whether recirculate air helps, or that might be just for cooling the air quicker with A/C.

Recirculate should help as every time it circulates it will remove more moisture.

I think recirculate just stops fresh are coming into the car, and just blows the air already in the cabin from front to back continuously. Correct me if I'm wrong. In the manual it says for demisting: max blower, max temperature, A/C, direct air to windscreen. Doesn't say to use recirculate.

Recirculate off. Had a Toyota many years ago which was always steamed up, then noticed the recirculate button. Turned it off,no more condensation.

If you use direct the air con will be fighting a never win battle to remove moisture from outside but recirculate it only has the air inside the car to do, and multiple times as it gets recirculated.

No to recirculate - that'll just keep the moisture inside the car!

Everything else that had been suggested though will help.

Theres a CAUTION in the manual that states "Prolonged use of recirculated air may cause the windows to mist up. If the windows mist up, follow the settings for defrosting and demisting windows"

Guys thanks a lot for all your help.

I'm a bit confused so that's what I've understand ... correct me if I'm wrong:

Max fan speed, max heat (as hot as possible)

put the status on the windsheild blow (obviously).

and not setting the air to be recycled inside the car ...

meaning have fresh air from outside all the time.

Waiting for your feedback.

Thanks a lot you guys!

:)

Yep and if you want to speed it up more, turn on A/C and your quick clear screen button if you have them

Aye.

I find re circ always keeps humidity inside.

To clarify-

Fan speed to maximum.

Air temp to maximum.

Vents to windscreen.

Aircon on.

Recirculation off.

Guys ...

I look on different cars when I have steam on my windshield.

Other cars don't have!!!

WTF ...

Maybe I have humidity or something in my car.

How do I fix this please?

How can I make my car produce less steam on the windsheild :(

It is condensation, not steam.

Is your aircon working? any condensation should disappear very quickly with aircon on. Aside from that, follow the advise already on this thread.

The inside of any vehicle will attract damp in wet weather from clothes/shoes/wet air.

Ventilate the car wherever possible and in severe cases use silica bags to attract moisture.
