Help Needed Please - Interior Air Distribution Cable And Temp Control Cable

Hi - Really need help on this one as I'm lost - took stock stereo unit out of my 2003 MK6(?) fiesta - just bought- to replace with single din stereo.

When it came to refitting the heater control panel, I know have 2 problems :-

1) I just couldn't get the air distribution flap operating shaft back onto the knob - so pulled, and the cable unit - as in pic came free altogether! - Could anyone tell - or better still show in a pic' how the heckers I can get this back into the correct place? - Assume it's behind yet another panel that isn't normally removed to replace the stereo!

2) Seem to have lost the footwelll end of the temp control cable which unhooks from the flap in drivers side footwell - I only disconnected the cable at the operating flap - but now can't see any cable at all to reconnect! - Again, am guessing it's somewhere behind the centre panel - which isn't normally removed to replace the stereo.

Have att'd pics to try and explain what I've now got - post-51124-0-85993300-1397031985_thumb.jall this - Hope they help and someone can point me in right direction to sorting these 2 prob's - (and not a Ford dealer! pse) Local car stereo fitting mob wanted £80 to do this job = after removing endless screws/ torx bolts and nearly breaking my neck I can see why!!

(Would love to meet the guy who actually desinged the interior of this model...............and kick him in the &^*(( - I mean 200 screws and half the dash just to remove the stereo!!!!!)

Many thanks to anyone with any ideas - have got the Haynes on this, but doesn't really seem to cover what I've cocked up on!

So you disconnected the temperature cable from both ends?

It will be there somewhere, I suggest pulling both kick panels and having a root around, the cable should be obvious as it's the only cable like it behind the dash.

The Flap cable needs to go down the lower right side of the radio apeture green end first, there is a clear channel down to the connection point.

Just push the cable n and twist it until it finds it's own way into the socket and slides home.

You'll know when it's in place as you will feel the usual notchy movement when turning it.

Plenty of light and crawling into the drivers footwell usually helps.

I did this job on a friends Fiesta last year and as you say it is a faff.

  • 1 year later...

Hi All - Don't belive this, but am now having the exact same problem as I did over a year ago - this time it's because I am replacing the original cd/radio in the car, 'cos am selling it - having bought (another!) MK4 - (only done 13,000 miles so couldn't resist it!)

This time I can see where the Air Dis ' cable slots into the other - green - end - it's how to keep that in and get the control end of it back into the "dial" - with the stereo in the way - Is there any trick anyone knows for this?

(Last time I got the garage I took it to for an MOT - but have really avoided them as they are really sloopy workers! - plus could do without any more expenditure before selling the car!)

Will upload some pics to show the state of dumbness I'm in again!

Thanks for any helpful pointers/guides etc

Jon

I did the first thing you did. The plug for it is at the back of the radio area near where the Ariel cable comes through! It's in the bottom right at the back. Complete pain to get back in! Took me a good 30mins!

As for the bits you've lost.. I'm breaking a 2004 fiesta

Only just realised this post is from 2014 and has now been sorted. Haha, oops

Hi Ginge - Nope = Not sorted quite yet! -= Had problem originally when I took stock stereo out, and am having same problems getting it back in to sell car!

If you are breaking a Mk6 am interested in the 2 front alloys - Mine have been knackered by my old man driving it them into kerbs! = If yours are in reasonable nick I may be interested - getting them repaired/refurbished is gonna cost me £50 per wheel plus vat - Don't know how much you want for yours?

Let me know

Thanks for your reply -

Cheers

Jon
