Damp Boot

Hi all,

Recently bought my first ever ford. Bought myself a 56 plate 1.8 TDCI focus sport.

Love the car if I'm being honest, but I keep hearing horror stories about the Ford focus :(!

Was giving the car a good gut out today and I noticed that my spare wheel was wet... I'm not sure if this is standard, but I have this stuff all over my boot? Anyone know what it is?

Trying to find the source of the possible leak, the carpet on the left side of the boot felt damp underneath, so I managed to lift if a bit, was greeted with this...

Again, is this normal, or any idea what it is?

Speaking to my dad about it, we both kinda feel that they're measures that have been fine before to try and waterproof the boot?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations as to how I'd approach trying to seal that boot?

Cheers,

Ross!

They are reinforcement strips and are normal the majority of leaks will be from the rear light clusters the spoiler or the rear bumper bolts

The rear lights if you remove the 2 holding screws youll see the plastic cups thst they screw into basically if you put the screw back into the plastic cup a few turns and wiggle as you pull it will pop out this is where a good marine sealant is needed to seal where the cup sits into for the spoiler to tell if thats leaking open the boot and under the spoiler pull off the plastic trim on the inside of the boot there will be tell tale water marks if so the whole spoiler needs unbolted and sealed for the bumper again with the boot open look to the sides where the bumper and boot meet 2 8 or 10mm bolts sit there undo them seal and tighten them up
