Leak :(

Hey guys,

So I noticed a couple of weeks back that the driver's foot-well carpet was wet. I pulled back the carpet to find a pool of water. The insulation stuck to the carpet was soaked and the white insulation under the pedals was also soaked. It took me a week to dry with leaving the doors open and using a hair dryer. I disinfected all the insulation to prevent further mould.

However I now have more water and am not totally sure where it's coming from. I am quite sure it is coming from the outside of the car, as it seems to be wetter after it has rained, but can't be 100%.

The water seems to be coming from under the white insulation that lies under the pedals, but I obviously can't see right under it as the insulation only pulls up so far.

Any ideas?

I am looking to take it for the windscreen to be looked at. I was told to take it to a windscreen and sunroof specialist as they will have more specific knowledge of where to look to find the leak. I don't want to take it to a garage and it be there for days costing me loads of money. I can't seem to find any windscreen or sunroof specialists around Leicester though.

Any help would be most appreciated. The car is a 2006 Focus 1.8 TDCI MK2.

fair bit on the internet about the bulkhead seal cracking and leak comes from that.

The leak seems to be coming from the right side of the driver's footwell though, not near the dash, would this still indicate it coming from the bulkhead?

Have u sunroof did u check drains not blocked have u ac check drain off working

Don't have a sunroof, read somewhere about the ac drain being blocked, but don't know where the drain is, will try looking into that more :)

Micks generally right 9/10 times so id take the advice he gives and you should get it sorted

We'll start ur car turn ac on leave car running if u look under ur car after bout 10 min should be pool of water on the ground that most common issue have checked all door seals on frame and door good next step if strip interior out seat an half carpet an get someone spray with power hose while sit in car with a light or great bit kit a smoke machine really good for water leaks but unlikely u be able get hold one easy

Noticed water drippin from that a little the other day after I'd come back from a journey with the ac on,is that what you're talking about mick?never noticed any wet patches in my car anywhere.

Yeah most likely it's not drain then check door seals an if they good u going to have to get stripping do you park ur car on slop or flat surface when this occurs an is it any time it rains or only really heavy rain water leaks are a nightmare so a lot of time an patience are required

Don't think it had rained at all lol.sometimes it's parked on a slight slope.i was jacking it up to remove the bottom intercooler pipe when I noticed it.

ac drain if you remove the drivers kick panel at the console and lift carpet youll see a rubber hose thatss the drain it can still be blocked even though its dripping to the outside given the location i wouldnt think its that but you do have the heater matrix nearby has the coolant level dropped? other than that ide say its possibly a bulkhead seal you need to find how far up the damp patch is if its up towards the window area then a seal or window seal is likely the issue if it doesnt go up that far then the water is from lower down and soaking into the padding which could be door seals as said or aircon drain pipe leaking into the car the seals on the pipe are poor so can leak in and let in water from the road as well so i sealed mine anyway

Any chance you could provide any imagery for the location of the AC drain tube Arthur? There are a few tubes around where you said to look...

At work at the moment its a rubber tube about 4 inches long secured to the gearbox tunnel by a plastic white plastic circular clip and will run up to the air unit where its pushed onto a small pipe ill try get an image up later

Think I found it, no leak there though. To check if it's a bulkhead seal issue, who do you recommend I take it to? To take it to a general garage would not be the best option, right?
