Ic Cluster Screen Not Lighting Up

Featured Replies

You uploaded only the firmware to the PCM. The VID block (configuration data) is missing.

At some point of the update procedure a message should pop up that the VID block is empty. You should have the choice to use the old VID block or program the empty VID block.

At this point I think your problem can be solved by manually filling in the VID-block. Next you can save the VID block and upload the VID-block to the PCM. In some cases it may be necessary to upload the VID-block and firmware to the PCM at the same time.

Below a screenshot of how the VID-block (configuration data) should look like on a 1.6 Duratec. Note that some setting may be different on your car. My car has a 120 A alternator but on other 1.6 Duratec engines the alternator may be 105 A.

Ok. That bits fixed I loaded the old firmware and then used the vid from there. The intergrated speed I'm not sure if that should be activated.

But I still have the issue of the car not starting.

Integrated speed = cruise control. This checkbox needs to be checked if the car has cruise control.

You could try to pair the PCM and instrument cluster again and reprogram the keys to the instrument cluster.

Are there any stored DTC codes in the PCM or instrument cluster?

D0900 is the only code I have. The car starts up then in 2 secs just dies again. If you rev to keep it alive it just dies as soon as you release it. The car don't start straight after you keep having to turn the key again to start it.

And it's shaking like I mean shaking violently.

I can hear the fuel pump working. Everything seems fine just won't stay alive.

Did you allready try one of the other firmware versions for this engine type?

On the following website you can download the firmware directly from Ford/Motorcraft. These should be the same as the firmware from the Civil-Z website but it is worth a try.

If you want I can search on my laptop for a backup of my car this evening. As far as I remember I have backups of both the original firmware file and the latest firmware file.

Fix it. I had to load my back up pcm dump and it loaded the vid. I then choose the new pcm update and elm config asked if I wanted to use that vid. Now that sorted. Then car still kept die out. Call Ford and it turns out once you do a pcm update you car basically forgets it's idling engine speed. So after the update you crack it while holding the gas peddle until it starts to run smooth on its own . And then go for a drive. Now car if running fine. The update I have not found any changes.

JW when you say you have a custom remap what does it do and does it work on my car as we kinda have same car. And transmission I have selected adaptive.

At the moment I have the Superchips remap which theoretically has about 9 HP more than the stock firmware. My experience is that many of the 1.6 Duratec engines do already have more than 100 HP on stock firmware. My engine is always running on 98 RON fuel and before the remap it already had 110 HP. After the remap my car had 117 HP.

I also did a few other modifications. I modified the complete air intake (removed all restrictions), installed a K&N panel filter and installed a custom made 50 mm throttle body. Together these modifications were a big improvement. My next modification will be a full custom made stainless steel exhaust which I am planning to build myself.

Eventually my final goal will be 125 HP or more.

The autotransmission setting of the instrument cluster does not only affect the automatic transmission. This setting also affects the throttle response. This is because the throttle pedal signal is converted to a CANbus signal by the instrument cluster. On a manual shifted car it is a known trick to set the automatransmission setting to sport. This will make the car feel a little more powerfull. Even on a ST/RS the difference is noticeable.

I have already done some tuning mods.

Exhaust is done

I have a k&n air filter.

But that's it. I want to make the car quicker, overtaking on the motorway is like trying to see who wins in a snail race.

Where can I go to get it remapped?

And how did u make the bigger throttle body? Did you use the original then just nodded it?

Also is there a turbo that would fit on to these engines?

A remap will definetely make the car quicker. There are a lot of companies which offer remaps for the Focus 1.6 Duratec. You only have to find a company with good customer reviews and preferably has a rolling road to tweak/adjust the software to your car.

There is no ready to fit turbo setup for the 1.6 Duratec. It is completely possible to install a turbo but all parts need to be custom made and a turbo setup will require a lot of modifications. A custom made turbo setup will cost a lot of money. Buying an 2.5 ST engine and driveline will probably be cheaper and will give you more power.

I am sorry but I do not share my remap. I have the Superchips remap but after the other modifications it is tweaked/adjusted to my engine by a specialist. Other 1.6 Duratec engined may not run properly on this software.

Does throttle body mod make any difference?

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Ford OC mobile app

A larger throttle body is in my opinion definetely a big improvement. After I fitted my custom made 50 mm throttle body the engine runs much smoother, revs better and feels more powerful.

I bought a spare stock 45 mm throttle body which I modified to 50 mm. The stock throttle bodies can be found for little money. the 1.25, 1.4 and 1.6 Duratec engines do all use the same 45 mm stock throttle body. I machined the throttle body on a lathe to 50 mm and installed a new throttle plate which I bought from a company which sells carburetor rebuild parts.
