Mk6 Escort 1.8 Si Been Standing For 6 Yrs

Hi all I've got a 1.8 si escort which has been standing for 6 years maybe a tad longer and wanted to know what you guys think will need doing to get it running..I've never had to deal with a car that's been stood for so long so haven't got a clue really.. it has been stored in a dry garage the whole time and there wasnt any thing wrong with the car apart from the exhaust blowing.. hope you guys can help or atleast give me an idea of what price it will take to get a mechanic to get it running.. cheers

Hello mate,if its been dry stored for that amount of time,first off drain whats left in the fuel tank as it wont do your engine any good if you try starting her,flush it then a gallon or so of fresh fuel,secondly you will have to check/replace any perished rubber pipes under the bonnet,also ht leads and plugs check(whats the mileage??) if okay then a new fuel filter (not expensive) ,make sure the radiator is holding okay, lastly check the oil level and its condition,appart from more than likley being black rather than a honey coloured gloop but no matter,you can buy some new oil if she fires up,it will be smokey also you have a blowing exhaust also,but silver top zetec engined escorts are pretty robust(ive owned two),cost depends on as usual if its actually in your heart to have it up and running,as if she does run sweet and has relatively low mileage your then going to have to go over running gear as well,wheels,suspension,brakes and a few other things also!!! the escort was the car i passed my test in it was a seranade model 1600,i then got a brand new 1.6 lx,after a few years got another new one a finesse in silver,went camping all over wales in it loved it,so i have a bit of s soft spot for ezzys,hope you can get her back on the road,nice predictable handling and not to complex either,mine had no abs and only a drivers airbag:lol:

Nice one for the reply mate it's great to have an idea of what needs doing. I haven't got the biggest budget at the moment so am hoping to get the car sorted to an extent so it starts and runs even if it is a little rough then little by little over the months get more work done when I can afford it so it runs perfect and is good to put back on the road.. I was going to sell but found out I should be able to afford the insurance for it which I am over the moon about because I really didn't want to sell as I've always loved it since the day my parents bought it because it has the same alloys that the mk6 rs2000 has and is the same colour aubergine which I've only seen on one other 3dr model..I also didn't want the car going to someone who would turn it into a boy racer which unfortunately happens a lot to escorts which is !Removed! because they look best standard and if all goes to plan I'll keep it looking standard but will tune the engine, and change the alloys to either escort gti or Scorpio mk2 cossie 16" alloys..

Can anyone tell me what is she worth in the condition she's in probably £100-£200 at a push???...cheers guys

Get some pictures up.

The 3dr is more desireable anyway. And if it's the 1.8SI it's the same as a GTi just without the kit and half leathers.

I will get some pics in a day or two and slap them on it's stuck in the garage due to seized brakes so the pics probably won't be the best though but I'll give it a damp cloth wipe down so everyone can see it's condition.. and yeah mate it hasn't got the gti/rs skirts or half leathers but does have rs2000 alloys fitted as standard.. to be honest I don't want to get rid but if it ends up been to much work for me to afford then I will unfortunately have to get shot...

just to add to whats already been suggested.

1..Timing belt...would be advisable to change before running the engine..no matter how little mileage its done since last change

2..Brake fluid...will still absorb water despite being dry stored

3..Coolant...recommend drain and a full flushing

just update.

we pushed the escort out the garge after freeing up the brakes.

drained alittle fuel out new filter and 2 Jerry cans of fuel. New plus and alittle clean up and quick check over. Started right up after alittle easy spray. Sounded amazing smooth. Like new.

Sadly no fuel was getting to the rail. all fuses seemed ok

So going back Saturday with a muiltmeter to check power to pump/Fuel kill switch ect ect :)

if it runs by itself we strip,clean and freeup breaks ect. and Hopfully be roadworthy enough to get it to MOT station :)
