Air Vents And Rev Counter Issues

Featured Replies

hi all, I have got a 56 plate focus zetec mk2 1.8 tdci, it has done over 148000 and have had it for nearly 4 years now i haven't really been having much trouble with it until the last two weeks but now i am currently having a bit of trouble with, the first proble is that I could be driving down the motorway doing 65-70 mph and i am getting a whooshing noise coming from the air vents it isn't really a big problem but i would like to know what could be causing this and if it would be a big job to fix, i had been told that it could be a split in one off the air pipes or it could be the turbo pipe. the second problem is also at high speed the rev counter seems to be erratic driving at 40mph in 4th gear the rev counter would be doing 2000rpm so i go and change to 5th gear and bring the speed upto 60mph but the revs will not go above 2000rpm and then when it does the rev needle will be moving consistently.

I would be grateful if someone could give me the heads up on these issues as i am trying to get the car booked in asap

Definitely check the intercooler hose out, whooshing usually relates to a split somewhere.

It's the large hose on the left of the engine running under the coolant expansion tank.

The split can be hard to find but usually occurs at the bend on the top part of the hose above the metal section.

Ditto get some one to rev the car whilst you have a listen in that area or run your hand just above it only a ten min job to change just watch though when you position the jubilee clip that sits below the expansion tank that it does not touch the under Side of the tank when it is repositioned as it will shafe through the plastic (the screw bit on the clip ).as for the clocks can't help you on that one .
