Dpf Ford Focus

Featured Replies

Advice needed. Got a quote from local ford specialist for a full service on my 2009 1.6 tdc 75.000 miles When he gave me the price I nearly fell over. £1.400 including all major filters ie fuel air pollen oil. Nearly £800 of that was the dpf parts apparently.

Do all 1.6 have the dpf filters?

The bloke mentioned a dpf removal and re map. What's the pros and cons or that being done. ?

Cars completely standard and runs a treat no smoke ever no lose of power.

Hi luke,

I bought my local ford a cowboy hat last time and very last time i was in the place,

DPF chamber is required for MOT purposes visual inspection,

All modern diesels have dpf's fitted and egr's

Ive &ad my dpf chamber cut open on the factory weld and gutted, chamber back in car all seems stock

Egr blanked and remapped, no smoke and no issues

No this wasn't a main ford dealer. I'm not a fan of them at all. This is a small family run garage that have been ford specialist and rs specialist for over 20 years.

Where is the dpf chamber on a focus. ?

You can also see it if you look down the front of the engine large chamber between radiator and engine.

Here's my ceramic dpf gutted down to the catalyst

Just bear in mind that in the UK as of February it is illegal to remove a DPF filter, and it can (if found) be a failure of the MOT and will be very expensive to resolve. Having said that, I havent yet seen anyone on the board say that they failed the MOT with a DPF removal.

But since you ask of it, thats the legal side.

so do it now before its too late :)

If gutted, the chamber is stainless steel will never rust,

"expensicve to replace" no more expensive than anyone else whom requires a replacement,

If your car was pre-owned then your laughin,

Blame the mysterious previous owner,

Just my opinion i can only save myself at the end of the day though

haha, fair comment Lenny, there are things to get around it that much is true!

Its just a case of do whatever right for your pocket at the end of the day.

+1 mate,

Also on a side note: i spoke to an environmental chemist in work and asked him whats his view on DPF,

He reckons the self regeneration process is actually worse than having no dpf because it drops a bomb of toxic gasses potentially in a built up area instead of cosistant low levels,

He also says turning carbon in to gasses it worse for the ozone,

Wow, just shows how clean these engines are in the first place! Impressive stuff.

To the OP, I'd have the rest of the service done without the DPF being changed. Only change it when it needs changing is my plan (although I'm way off the 75K mark!).

no prob,

To prolong the life of your turbo id blank the egr though,

Cheap and easy job to do:

This is precisely why I decided not to buy another diesel. Don't get me wrong, I love the driving characteristics, torque and economy of our 1.8TDCi but I think diesel emissions are far more injurious to human health than a petrol engine and the measures taken to try to overcome them are both ineffective and expensive. For a long time now I've had the suspicion that the increase in breathing problems such as asthma is at least partly linked to the use of diesel engines, in the haulage industry and public transport as well as increasingly in private cars.
