Ford Focus 2002 Year. Automatic Transmission Fluid

Featured Replies

Does anyone know where to top up the transmission fluid. It's an auto box.

AFAIK you have a plug about midway up the gearbox on the offside? you need a pipe, funnell and a lot of tape to hold the pipe in place as you pour. If you are doing an oil change you should also replace the filter.

Cheers.

Where is the filter?

\I am not sure on the 2002 Auto, but you should find it at the base of the gearbox

Ok. Thanks for your help. Is it a pointless effort just topping up the oil then if it's low?

not at all, auto's by their nature are more unreliable in the sense that they need more rigid maintenance to keep it moving. In the event that the oil level gets low it can then seize and start to cause damage to the torque converter as well as the gearbox...

To be honest, its best as always to keep it at a medium level, but with age comes natural wear and tear so the best thing you can do is get it cleaned out, new filter and oil would prolong the life of it.

Went to have a look at my sister in laws car for her. It was nothing to do with the gear box in the end like she told me over the phone. It was just the coolant reservoir cap. All fixed for £7.

Result!

Always good to be given good information to work with thought isnt it :p

even by my terrible reconing, there is a big difference between a gearbox and an expansion cap :p

  • Author

Lol. I had to load all my tools into the car and back out again for no reason. I only needed my hand to test the expansion cap. Lol.

I hate it when people say to me can.you look at my car. It's making a funny noise.

Yet they can explain the noise or even where abouts it's coming from. Lol
