Roderick Pask
Hi folks, Does any one know if the Fiesta Ecoboost has a cam belt or chain. The reason I am asking is that I have seen it written that the engine has a cam belt running in oil - that sounds like a chain to me. Nathan54771
As above ^ It has a oil immersed cam belt which is strange but obviously works.
matt1981
Does this last the life of the engine? Or is it changed during a service?
Nathan54771
I'd be pretty certain it's changed at some point, but probli talking high mileage as it's oil immersed and not open to weather etc etc. Then again it's under high stress and hot oil so I don't know ? matt1981
Would it be the camshaft drive belt? (I'm not very mechanical!). If so, etis says every 10yrs/150,
Nathan54771
Yes that's correct :) I thought so seen as it's immersed.
nomisreprah
this is an oil immersed cam belt, i would get it replaced, i have just had one in for a non start and the slip washer on the crank had worn so it put the timing out, about 6 to 7 hours to replace but the cam belt kit is quite cheap to buy, absolute pig of a job . Bobr
Not a DIY job unless you are a qualified mechanic with your own workshop. Recommended time for replacement is 150,000 miles or 10 years but most recommend getting it done at 100,000 miles or 8 years. I'd go for the latter - better safe than sorry.
