Ford Focus 2003 1.8 Tdci Lx Egr Blanking

Featured Replies

Does anyone recommend blanking the egr?

Need some feedback please

Yeah we all do.

+1 - a 2003 model is probably Euro3 - if so can have a solid plate fitted with no problems

Best to fit a solid plate (plates with holes to let gasses through are literally a waste of time) stainless steel plates are best, aluminium plates have been known to melt (hot exhaust gasses) and mild steel can rust

Once the solid plate is fitted it will stop the inlet (including manifold) getting further contaminated/ eventually choked up by the carbon from the exhaust - but the previous carbon/ gunk that the un-blanked EGR has dumped in the manifold will still be there and the engine would probably benifit from getting the inlet manifold taken off and cleaned out

With the plate fitted you should notice the car pulls better from low revs, it may eliminate flat spots/ hesitation at some revs and the engine feels smother, most have recorded a slight improvement in MPG .

Thanks for the feedback, where would i find the best blanking plate? If you have any links to ebay that would be great.

If i blank it will it damage the turbo?

Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

It prevents turbo damage if anything,It stops the egr recirculating crappy gasses through the turbo

Further to this I've been experiencing power loss n poor starting problems, it fires n cuts out, i called the aa out about an hr ago n diagnosed it as the egr valves gone, lucky for me i have aa parts n labour cover he said i pay £35 excess and halfords auto centre will do the rest n claim the rest off the aa.

How does it make any difference to the turbo?

I was under the impression the recirculated gases enter the air intake system just before the manifold and don't go anywhere near the intake fresh air side of the turbo.
