Rin88
Hello, I received my new Fiesta EcoBoost 1.0 T (100ps) about a month ago now, my first Ford and it has been great just one issue that i'm not sure if its normal and thats the sound of the fuel pump. The pump makes a constant sound like a bumble bee buzz when the engine is running that can be heard around the rear of the car. The noise get louder after the car has been taken for a run as I guess the fuel pump heats up to the point when I get out of the car in a quiet street I can hear the buzzing just by standing by the driver side door. I have been to the dealer and as normal you get a salesman listen to the car for all of 2 seconds and says "thats normal, all high pressure fuel pumps do that", I wish now that when I was there I got him to start the demo car up to see if that did the same. I have to admit I know next to nothing about car engines so I have no idea if the dealer is telling the truth or not so I thought I would get the opinions of other owners if they can hear their fuel pumps buzz with the Ecoboost engine?. Thanks
Clarky2013
Yeah its normal for those models. Had it on mine . Nothing to worry about :)
JackieR
Hi, I also went back with mine, but they fitted a new fuel pump as mine was super noisy. I can still hear a humming noise with a new one in, but it's not as bad. I guess if it's "normal" then we'll just have to put up with it. Rin88
Thanks for the replies Looks like it is normal then just seems excessive to hear it over the sound of the engine at idle, so I will give it a bit more time to see if it get any better or worse then decide if a trip to the dealer again is needed. paulyinthenorth
I too can hear the sound of the fuel pump over the engine when I'm idling. It's a bit worrying at first - but 4500 miles in it hasn't blown up yet - so I guess it really is normal. Helenwa
Hi I have this too & im really concerned. I just don’t see how this noise can be normal… it’s overly excessive, it’s the exact same issue as rin88. It’s very strange.
anon
One of the following is true. The pump is making a normal noise for a pump of its type and some can be noisier than others; don't worry. The noise is a warning of an imminent asteroid strike on earth and we're all going to die; you will have no need to worry.
Mavroz
It seems some pumps are noisy, some aren't, that is just the luck of the draw. Some say that a noisy pump is ready to fail but not sure about that.
DENXIL
I got the same noise present that was described as "normal" by the dealership. It's kind of electric buzzing ( old loud type office lighting maybe). I can hear it when idling, in the rear seats the most, also under the car. It was a scary realisation at first, but with time you just learn to ignore it? I am struggling with the other sound now. Some metal part/spring is making a noise in the seat belt mount, it's very annoying, just next to my ear!
