Hi everyone, I'm quite new on here and I'm after a little advice, if possible.

We have the Focus Mk2 LX 1.6 TDCi.

Firstly, I installed an Alpine double din headunit in replacement for the standard unit, since then our fans will only blow out of the windscreen vents, regardless of us turning the knob into all other positions.

And secondly, our airbag/seatbelt tensioner light has come on. I took it to our local garage and their diagnostic machine said 'break in drivers side circuit'. Unfortunately I have no error code at all, I was silly enough not to ask.

If anyone could shed any light on the above, would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

as for the break, i believe that the airbag/seat belt tensioner is located under the driver side seat, so have a look there.....

take the stereo out and have a look at the blower couplings etc... sounds like you have caught something on removal/fitting of your unit

Firstly you may have dislodged the cables on the back of the dial when the stereo was fitted or trapped some cables. You will have to remove it to check.

It could be the connection under the drivers seat that is causing the airbag light to come on. If the seat is moved quite a lot it may have loosened the connection. Common problem on all makes of car.

Agree with Martin, I would suggest though that you start by disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes, then removing and reconnecting all connectors under the drivers seat.

As Martin said, it sounds like something come loose after the radio was removal.

I've had the stereo out, but can not see anything obvious. Do you think it would be worth removing the whole of the front panel to see behind the heater controls?

I've had the connection block on and off a few times, again, nothing I can see (not that I'm too intelligent with things like this) that stands out.

Regarding removal of the battery, I done this at the weekend due to wiring in a new amplifier, and I ran the wire under the carpet so had the seats out too. So I'd say this was not successful on my problem, lol.

Definately well worth considering removing the front fascia to be honest. It make access a lot easier.

dont you have to remove the full fascia anyway? did you catch anything under the dash whilst pulling the amp feed thro? if it was pulling tightly could of dislodged connections..... deffo check uder the seat again, but maybe leave the seat in situ...

I had to when first fitting the cage for the unit, but when I added an amp, I was just able to feed the RCA cables down the back. I'll have a go at stripping the panel off at the weekend. Was quite annoying as I has the air con regased and then found out the fans weren't working properly, annoying! Lol.

You need to check the rear of the control panel of the heating controls. You have a long green connector which only goes in fully one way. So you turn the control until the green thing goes in. For the fan it's just a wire, like the brake wire you get on bikes. And then you have 2 connectors . One large one and one small. Just turn the switch if the green thing turns its not a that but will be something else.

Regarding your airbag light on, you would have turned on the ignition to look for power feeds while fitting your stereo and amp, if that is the case and you did this with seats removed and airbag unit disconnected a fault would be logged in fault memory and airbag light will come on, fault will read something along line of seat recognition pad fault of something to do with loss of communication with airbag module. Disconnecting the battery may not reset light as it is a safety system and may need to be reset using a diagnostic computer. Might be a trip to ford unless you know of anyone who has access to the gear to reset system and erase the fault code.

Thanks Paul, I shall take it to my local garage again and see what the code is or what the machine comes up with.

When I took it there with this same problem, the only thing it said was 'break in drivers side circuit', but like I say, I shall try again. If nothing different appears, would there be any wiring under the trim by the footwell/drivers door as I did run my RCA cables down there initially before rerouting under the seats?!
