Fiesta Full Size Spare Or Space Saver

Featured Replies

Hi all I've looked at a few threads asking the same sort of question but I'm still confused hoping somebody can clear this up for me

I'm looking at getting a spare tyre as the foam\gel kit is a no no.

Current tyre size is 195 55 15R

Would I be ok with a 14" or 15" spare?

The tyre sizes are confusing me lol

I've seen a lot of the spares sizes as 195 50 15

Can I just get a ford alloy and get a tyre put on it what would I need to hold it in place?

Also from what I understand if I get a full sized spare I'll have to modify the boot so the floor sits correct?

Also would it be best to buy a storage wheel box like this for a full sized spare or the spacer?

195 is the width of the tyre tread, 55 is the thickness of rubber from the rim and R15 is the rim size, if your going for a full size spare tyre get it in the exact same size as your current tyres so 195, 55, R15.

Its illegal to have different size tyres per axel unless of course used as spare for emergency, no point having a full size spare if it cannot be used for normal driving. You can buy a different rim but steel rims use different bolts from alloy. It's better to hunt down an exact rim of your current rim style therefore no need for additional bolts, or just get a space saver spare tyre

Thanks still undecided if i should get a full size spare (will it fit boot issue?) or just a space saver

If i opt for just the space saver i'll be on the look out for the kit + jack but will i need the Storage box/stowage to hold it?

You will need the foam spacer yes and from what I heard its rather expensive but a space saver and jack kit in good condition are usually all over ebay.

The wheel well will fit a full size if fitted with the correct foam spacers

14 or 15 inch space saver will do, the difference being the 14 inch will have a larger tyre fitted to it to compensate.

Thanks guys

I have a full 17" in the boot, upside down as a bucket, and have most things to fix the car inside it, it only sits slightly high, it's not too noticeable.

Having said all that I've just taken most stuff out ready for when the new one comes, but left the wheel in as last time I took it out a month early and bent an alloy!
