Hi guys,

Recently done a rotation of my wheels (rear to front and vice versa) however one of my anti theft lug bolts with a hexagonal star type pattern was stiff to get into the wheel.

Anyway, the punchline is that in tightening that particular bolt I have managed to shear my the star pattern on the adapter which allows me to remove the bolts.

Does anyone know how to get a spare one of these? I don't have the code for it as it was not supplied however the Mcgard adapter looks like it may fit but at 40 quid from Halfords I dont fancy taking the risk that it doesnt.

Its either that or I weld something to them and replace with new bolts (not high on my list of things to do as I dont fancy damaging my alloys).

Its a 56 plate 1.8TDCi if thats any use.

Your looking at at least £50 and a 4 week wait if you have the keycode.

If you dont, go to Ford and ask them to try remove it with the master set, that could be charged at over an hours labour, alternatively they will have to remove it by force.

I had a similar issue and had to get something welded on to remove it. As such I no longer use locking nuts.

Ford offered to try the master set for £65 + VAT! To forcibly remove them, they told me they'd destroy the wheels and charge me £45 per wheel - plus VAT!!

I got them removed by a chap with a chisel for a tenner and a bit of mickey taking...found the key 8 months later...

Same happened to me. Stupid design I would say.

I went to ford the parts counter wanted me to remortgage. So I just walked straight round the garage bit and called one of the technician's over. (what a waste of time.) certainly wouldn't let any of them hillbillys near my car.

I went to a mates garage in the end and he sanded the outer spinning ring off using an air line. Then used a chisel. Cost me £20 for all four wheels plus a new better set of lockers.

Depends on the locking nut. Some (including Ford) have a rotating collar designed to specifically prevent that sort of device being used. If they are the original lockings nuts, then no...'fraid not

If it's the type with a rotating collar on them, if you can try and chisel it off first - not sure if it's an option for every kind though.

Yes its the rotating collar type ones.

Stupid design, for the torque requirement of the bolt you think they would have something a bit more substantial than a thin hexagonal piece of steel to turn the damn thing.

I might just get my mate to weld a bolt on and turn it that way and put some new locking bolts on.

Anythings better than standard.
