gav007
Anyone else think the MKii focus is a piece of !Removed! compared to the MKi ?
jeebowhite
Not exactly the greatest first post made by a new member! So why do you not like the MK2, many people enjoy it, and the MK1 was revolutionary at the time, the MK2 is still a very good car!
gav007
Not exactly the greatest first post made by a new member! So why do you not like the MK2, many people enjoy it, and the MK1 was revolutionary at the time, the MK2 is still a very good car! I got about 130 miles for £20 of diesel in MKI Get about 110 miles for £20 in MKII Its noisier (no soundproofing) sounds like a transit van My own fault for buying it without a test drive Asumed it would be as good as MKI that i had for 10 years and loved it
jeebowhite
I can see why your not a fan on those scores, but could the fuel price be a factor on the miles? less fuel for your £20? As for the soundproofing, it makes sense, it is a bit louder as there is less soundproofing inch for inch, but that can be relatively easily resolved. depending on the engines health it could be as much the reason for soundling like a diesel, you can blank the EGR and do a service that will help reduce the knocking. Did you buy from a garage / trader or a private sale?
Stoney871
I personally think the MK2 is an improvement over the MK1 in all ways. Each to their own I suppose.
chrisroberson99
I don't like the MK2 much, sorry. MK1 or MK3 for me! The Mk1 is an excellent car and I would still happily have one!

gav007
Forgot to mention when i put the foot down you hear a rush of air in cabin as if the blower motor is on (This is with the blower motor off ) any ideas ?
Stoney871
look for a split in the intercooler hose. It's the large pipe that sits just under the engine cover on the drivers side of the engine bay.
jeebowhite
Take the car back and in writing also, confirm what the complaints are with the car. The whoosh noise is likely a split hose or pipe. The diesel knocking could be a dodgy EGR or injector. You can get the car improved by getting the garage to acknowledge there responsibilities in the sale. Stoney871
No worries. The symptoms you described were a dead giveaway. I had it on mine, started as a whistle and ended up as a full blown roar followed by a warning light once the turbo pressure built up to boost. gav007
Anyone used an EGR cleaner is it any good I remember changing the turbo and inlet manifold of my mk1 focus and it was THICK with gunk hard to believe a 150ml spray can could remove it ? jeebowhite
its easy to use, but not quite so recommended. if it breaks a small clump of carbon off, that can be enough to kill the turbo or worse still stuff the engine.
