Ford Focus Pulling/holding Back

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Ive noticed when im on the Motorway and going at a constant speed l, either 70mph or 80mph I can feel my engine wanting to pull back on me only for a a couple of seconds and its fine and tgen it does it again unless I decrease speed or increase.

This is only a slight sensation not massive .

Hope I explained that ok.

I have a mk3.5 1.6 zetec

Cheers

Could be a couple of things, if its recently had a new fuel filter then that should be fine, otherwise it may benefit from one. However, the main issue we see here for this, is the EGR valve. If you havent already done so, blanking off the valve would be a good idea.

I can say that my CMAX had this exact issue, having blanked the EGR valve it behaved perfectly fine. Sadly I notice a little of this issue on my mondeo these days, so I suspect that I may have to play again and consider installing it. I just cant be doing with the EGR triggering the EML all the time!

Hey James,

Thanks for the reply, i'll have to have a look at that on the weekend, im trying to find out where its located around the engine? its a 1.6 Duratec

right about....

There!

Its a guide Lenny threw together when he did is, very helpful and informative. The CMAX was a pain but by all accounts the Focus appears a straight forward job.

Much to my satisfaction, it seems that my mondeo is easier still ;)

Thanks James, sadly the YouTube video doesn't load.

Whcih youtube vid? I didnt see one?

on the link you posted by Lenny, there is a video link to Youtube

I inadvertently skipped that.

If I recall correctly it was something similar to this:

If OP has a 1.6 duratec its a petrol not a diesel, all this info is for the diesel. The fuel filter is a lifetime filter in the tank on the petrol.

When was it last serviced? Air filtered/spark plugs etc. Also what fuel do you use, mine doesn't like certain brands of fuel much so I always use super

Serviced in Jan, Air Filter is K&N and cleaned last month, Champion Spark Plugs (I think) and new leads.

Petrol I use Super.

So EGX isnt an option!?

Don't think the 1.6s have them, never heard of one being blanked, I know for a fact that the tivct version doesn't have one.

Air Con kicking in?

Does it do it with AC off?

Aircon is off, its only a small limp that I can feel.

With Aircon on its takes alot of the engine anyway

I thoufght the 2.5 petrols had the EGR but I may well be mistaken!
