2007 Focus 1.8 Tdci Juddering

Featured Replies

Well not sure how to explain this but ill do my best.....

I have a 2007 1.8 tdci I have a slight judder on tick over only sometimes and more when its cold/warming up its ticking over as it should then a little judder/nock then it goes after a few seconds and mabe it will come back again if I put a little bit of pressure on accelerator it goes away.

Iv just had a new (1st) injector as it was down

new dmf and new gear box!! None has done the problem

also!!!..... when I press my accelerator (only sometimes) I have to press it down more than I should when setting off but then sometimes it sets off right quick like high revs (so hard to explain :-( hope someone can help it's costing me a fortune now

Anyone?

kinda fuel starvation? you should always let the car run for around a min before attempting to pull off anyways... also try blocking of the egr valve as this causes problems...... when was the car last serviced? i do mine every 5-6k. and fuel filter once a year, just as good practice...

Thanks

The egr valve is already blanked.

not sure on last service so im going to get it all tomoro and give it a good service.

Sounds like it could be a problem with the throttle potentiometer (throttle position sensor).

Thank you

dont suppose you have a picture of were that is do you?

Can send my email?

I believe (unless I am having a dumb moment) this is part of the accelerator pedal assembly.

Yes, it's part of the pedal assembly. The only image I've got is below - not very informative. You have to remove the panel below the steering wheel to get access, disconnect the wiring connector then undo those three nuts to get the pedal assembly out.

Brill thank you im going to Make sure its all clean before I buy a new one

Yes, it's worth checking that the connector pins and sockets are all clean and free from corrosion before shelling out on a replacement.

I've never had one of these connectors apart so haven't seen what it looks like but if the socket inserts are thin tin-plated types rolled with a gap I would probably also try to squeeze them slightly to make sure the pins are a nice tight fit. The way to do it is with a very small screwdriver blade slipped between insert and housing and if necessary twisted slightly. If you try that be careful not to overdo it.

Thank you mjt will let you no.

Need to sort this judder now aswell :-( spent so much trying to get it right :-(

You may well find sorting the throttle sensor will fix the judder. If my guess is correct there is a bad spot on the potentiometer track at the throttle closed position and this is sending randomly varying signals to the ECU. In fact it's quite probable that it's being affected by the engine vibration in a sort of feedback loop. The fact you say opening the throttle slightly makes it go away pretty much clinches it in my view.

Although I'm quietly confident about it I just hope I don't cause you to shell out more cash for nothing. It's possible a diagnostic might verify the cause but for the cost of one I'm guessing you could go a long way to paying for a new sensor.

O had it on a diagnostic machine few days ago for the injector and nothing came up then :-/

Took the plastic panel off and can't seem to get to the top right nut to get the pedal off :-(

if your using a wratchet, you might benefit from using an extender?

I just can't get into the top right bolt at all :-/

I guess that means taking it to a garage. I can sympathise as nowadays I'd be unable to get to anything in the footwell - I'm too tall, my hands are too big and my joints are all seized up

  • Author

I'm only 28 haha I can get down the foot well easy it's just there's a massive bit in the way. Just thinking iv serviced it and iv not really noticed it juddering as much I'm going to keep an eye in it. Thanks for your help
