Coolant Leak When Cars Under Pressure Any Ideas Where To Start??

Featured Replies

2000 mk4 fiesta ghia 1.25 zetec's. Brought my car for a spin, prity much redlined it for a minute or so up to about 95mph. I noticed when I got home which is about a minute later noticeced water driping under drivers side of the engine. Pulled the bonnet an noticed coolant sprayed up along the left of the engine at the back just under the exoansion bottle. Didnt look like it came from the coolant exoansion bottle but more like it was sprayed up that way but down lower was prity wet an dripping, the coolant level dropped a tiny after this happened. Any ideas what this could be. Car is not over heathing and ive drove the car since normally should I say an theres no leaks no notin everything seems good. Could water have been forced out around the waterpump or something. Any info appreciated & cheers for reading:-)

not remembering exactly where the expansion cap is (I believe its to the furthest "offside" point of the car. I believe your issue is the expansion cap needs replacing.

Recently diagnosed this on a colleagues 1.4 fiesta - similar circumstances.

Buy a new cap and switch the coolant expansion tank cap and you should find you have no issues. I recon you have a hairline crack or split in there. As the coolant heats, the pressure expands, the split expands, and the vapour escapes cooling and spraying all over.

If u stand at the front of the car its over in the back left corner pritty much on front of the steering wheel. When I squeeze the pipes I could hear air hissing out from the expansion cap I replaced the seal an could not hear the air any more. But the tank itself was not wet it was sprayed just about up to it could the coolant be sprayed from any were else from down lower. Do u think I have it fixed, im afraid to drive it hard again. Cheers for readin jebowhite

could have... make sure its on maximum when engine is cold and try it again?????

Ye I will, suppose its the only real way to know for sure. Cheers lads:-)

I would say for the price of it just buy another expansion cap, that with the seal could be enough to resolve the issue.
