Spraying Rear Diffuser And Front Grills

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone!

I'm thinking of spraying my rear diffuser and front grills but I am not sure whether gloss black or satin would look best and if people have tried it them selfs what sand paper and stuff they used?

Any help would be appreciated!

Here's the way i done some

Wash all the parts

600 grit wet and dry

Wash and grease remover

3 coats of primer

Leave 24 hours

Wet and dry 1200 grit any high spots

Wash and grease remover again

3 - 5 coasts of top coat i like gloss black better than satin

Leave 24 hours

Very very light 2000 grit dry paper

Wash and grease remover

3 coast of lacquer thin layers only

Then leave 24hours

Then buff with a polish wax and fit them :)

Looks a lot better in gloss black!

You've done a good job on that mate as well!

Cheers. Was the first mod I done. Hate the way they come. Just look dull. Well worth the time to do them imo

Yeah, it doesn't do any of the fords justice when they are in the dull grey

The only bad thing is with this it's very time consuming and I don't really have much time :/

To be honest when.I done my wing mirror covers I was pushed for time so I just allowed 30 mins drying time between each coat. I never left them for 24 hours between the primer, gloss and laquer. However if you do it this way you won't be able to sand them down as above because you would end up pulling the paint off.

Yeah I will, just have to do it all over a weekend sometime, might as well do it properly rather than having to do it again!

With my wing mirrors I done the following.

Took off the car

Wet and dry sand

Washed off with soapy solution

Dried properly.

Primer 3 coats. Half hour drying between coats

Gloss black 3 coats. Again half hour drying.

Laquer 2-3 coats.

Pic isn't the best for looking at wing mirrors but it is a perfect finish.

You might get the very odd rough feel in places where your not sanding it between coats.

Took a few hours. But like you say it's much better to do it properly. Then you will get a pristine finish.

To be honest your mirrors look like a proper job anyway so I might try a shorten the job down like you
