Fiesta Mk7 Questions

Breaking the engine in

Drive it slow everywhere for first 1000 miles or open the throttle up as much as you can or a mixture?

Unleaded Fuel

Does the fiesta run better on bp ultimate? or just standard?

Mountune pack

Does the mpg decrease with the added power? Is it noisy inside the car?

Performance

Has anyone timed their cars 0-60 in seconds? I know the official figure is 9.9 seconds but in reality is this achievable? Whats the stats with the Mountune on aswell?

Thanks

Take it easy for first 1000 miles, rev a bit closer to the 1000 just don't red line it I think.

I always use the ultimate unleaded, dunno why ;p

Don't have the Mountune pack but I think the 0-60 is 7.9 with it.

Anyone know if the Moutune conversion is available in pieces so I don't have to come up with the full £1,299 all in one go?

Generally cars theese days don't need breaking in. The engines have progressed a lot in the last 30 years, and don't really have the same issues (bits falling off etc) due to the much better quality oils / metals etc. However, as a precaution I would suggest not red-lining until after 1000 miles maybe?

Like any car, the Fiesta won't run 'better' with ultimate unleaded, but it will help keep the engine healthy and lengthen its longevity. Ultimate Unleaded is simply like drinking milk as apposed to milkshake! (i.e. less impurities in the ultimate and consequently better for the internal stuff) lol.

The montune pack will decrease the MPG slightly, but I can't imagine by very much. It's a re-map of the engine so makes valves work faster and more efficiently etc. The manifold is also upgraded which will be where most of the MPG loss would come from. As for noise, the exhaust is louder, due to the manifold replacement again - But it's designed to be loud and poppy like racing cars of today.

Although the official figure is 9.9 seconds people are claiming 9.5 and a little less. The usual standard for timing 0-62 seconds is to do it on a privately owned peice of race track, but they arn't ever pushing the car particularly (i.e. changing gears at around 4000 RPM like a 'normal person' would. Pushing the car I reckon you can get it as low as 9.5 or even 9.0 in good conditions! The moutune upgrade reduces this to 7.5 seconds, which is a much more precise figure as mountune would probably have pushed the car much more than ford themselves.

Hope this helps!

The mountune is available in peices, as follows:

Engine remap

Manifold

Decals

Wheels

I THINK you can have any selection of those, although the manifold and engine may be part of the same pack (performance pacK). Not 100% sure.

I didnt run the car in - was told by Fords that I didnt need to and to just drive normal in it. The noise is quite loud inside the car with the Mountune upgrade, but funny enough it seems louder on the passenger side than the drivers - dont know why!!! probably very loud in the back, will have to ask the kids lol, its has a lot of pop noises when coming off the accelerator, which at first I found a bit embarassing as I felt really boy racery in it, but now I love it lol, it drones at high speed on the motorway, which means just turn the stereo up louder to compensate. I dont think you can buy the upgrade in peices other than the wheels, appearance pack and engine upgrade can be done seperate, mpg has decreased slightly nothing major though still managed just under 50mpg on a long motor way journey last Bank hol weekend. Insurance was affected but again not tons - but that could be my age and amount of no claims I have.

Petrol - I just use standard fuel at the pump.

0-60 - quick - would love to know exactly how quick I did a fast pull out on a junction the other day as it seemed to fly lol

A lot of cars have ECU's that can tell what RON rated fuel is being used. As in my car, optimum settings are programmed to run at 98 RON, if I put standard 95 RON in then I lose power as the ECU backs everything off to protect the engine and this loss of power can be anything upto 30 BHP.

Whether the Fiesta has an ECU that does this, I wouldn't know, but for the sake of a few quid a tank I'd advise everyone to put decent fuel in the car.

This country uses the figures 0-60mph and European countries tend to use the figures 0-100 kmh, which is where the 0-62 mph comes from.

As for the road testing, they usually thrash the nuts of them to attain the figures they get. No point have performance figures if they don't show the performance of the vehicle. A rev limit is that and anything upto that is completely acceptable. Joe Blogs doing it down a country lane will never get a true reading using his stopwatch and speedometer, the official figures and those done by the magazines such as Autocar, Auto Express, Evo etc are done using specialist timing equipment and done many times to ascertain the best approach and therefore times. Of course there are also changes to the weather, the driver and the car, such as tyres, that can also affect the performance figures.

Mountune claim 7.9 seconds from 0-60 mph.

thanks people, I thought the 0-62 might be quicker or the fiesta has a great standing to 40 speed as my mx-5 (current model) was lagging behind a new mk7 (minus mountune) and the mx-5 0-62 is 7.9 seconds
