jamesriley
Hi new to this site have been looking down eBay on performance websites etc and not to sure what I can do to make my 1.6tdci zetec abit quicker like engine mods etc. Cheers
FOCA
Probably the no1 thing is to get it remapped (including Bluefin) Blanking the EGR with a solid plate will help a little too After that the modifications get progressively more expensive and/or tend to have less effect
Lenny
Hi new to this site have been looking down eBay on performance websites etc and not to sure what I can do to make my 1.6tdci zetec abit quicker like engine mods etc. Cheers2.5" Cat back exhaust, Blank the EGR http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/42915-guide-fitting-egr-blanking-plate-16tdci-engine/ Internal remove DPF ECU Remap Upgrade Induction Filter http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/36783-green-cotton-performance-induction-filter-fitting-guide/ ECU Remap All that will take you from Stock 88bhp (90bhp) to 125bhp After that you could upgrade to 110bhp focus 1.6TDCi fuel Injectors Aswell as the focus 110bhp Garrett turbo With those fitted on top of the above list you will reach 140-150bhp Perhaps benefit from an ST focus intercooler at that point And an upgrade stage 2 clutch.
jeebowhite
As the guys said, remap (or tuning box), EGR blank, better breathing in and out. Thats the best you can really do
Lenny
As the guys said, remap (or tuning box), EGR blank, better breathing in and out. That's the best you can really do sorry jeeb i really hate contradicting posts on anyone mate i feel like such an !REMOVED! rite now, however let me explain: i agree with everything youve said except for tuning box's id keep well away from tuning box's as the simply over fuel the engine nothing else, A full remap controls the boost parameters aswell as variable control of fuel and air intake for a precise well controlled increase in performance which can also be economical if driven easy. I know the forum has a deal with a fuel rail tuning box company and perhaps duty to promote such device, but as an independent consumer myself: i personally wouldn't even fit a tuning box to my Honda Petrol garden lawnmower. There a quick fix but not the best option, Like drugs, LSD for example Some people take LSD on the streets, increases performance but they don't know the parameters of everything could be doing long term damage, On the flip side Scientists created lsd in a lab back in the 80's and connected volitary candidates to a full dialyses to monitor all parameters during testing, the end user got the same perhaps even better results with lees potential impact to the heart, Much like a turbo in the car, an ECU remap monitors all, Safest option and still always gives that Sweet Sensation. jeebowhite
its fine Lenny, I understand, Tuning boxes are certainly the under dog when it comes to tuning! an ECU remap is definately the best way to go if it can be done, but from a personal opinion (and the experience others have had on other forums I frequent) I always say dont rule them out altogether. A simple resistor in a box is a no no! but if you get a decent brand its an alternative thats much cheaper than a remap, but the cost you pay reflects the output. Half price gives you half the quality :) Everyone has an opinion. so you dont need to feel a pleb if you disagree :p

Ikoyian
Personally I'd go for this, I always was going to if I did get a Tdci.. http://www.mountune.com/index.php/services/performance-upgrades/fiesta/fiesta-tdci-2008-2010
jamesriley
Haha. Thanks for the advice guys. Right blanking the egr" where do I start and will a standard remap be okay or is there any stages I can go for. Thanks again boys
FOCA
Haha. Thanks for the advice guys. Right blanking the egr" where do I start and will a standard remap be okay or is there any stages I can go for. Thanks again boys The "stage one" "stage two" etc that some remappers/ / tuning companies provide is more of a marketing thing, rather than a technical thing - ie to get more money out of the punters. Basically there are absolute limits that any given (otherwise stock) engine can be remapped to, the injectors can only supply a finite amount of fuel, the turbo a maximum amount of air, that cannot be exeeded with the stock components, That is why the claimed power/ torque outputs of different mappers/ tuning companies of any given car/ engine tend to be similar (and the differences between different measuring method/ dynos is probably bigger) The map you get from Superchips (bluefin) is a balance between performance / economy (or to be more accurate, the maximum performance without compromising economy, longevety, or smoke (out of the exhaust) output, the map can be "pushed" a little bit, but the economy may suffer (ie- you might get 5% more power/ torque but 20% less MPG) - you may also put components (like injectors/ turbo) under more stress, and there may be a lot of black smoke coming out of te exhaust when the throttle is opened For example, the Superchips revised/custom map i run has my injectors running at 95% of their capacity, running at 100% would hardly make any difference to performance, but would wear out the injectors quicker and there would be more smoke from the exhaust So the map you get from Superchips/ Bluefin, and other leading remappers, is already optomised, "stage 1/2 etc" is not nessesary There is a lot of info about fitting EGR blanking plates on the site, i helped to fuel the recent resurgence of interest in fitting EGR plates on the site and Lenny has produced an exellent guide to fitting one on a 1.6 TDCI.
