2014 Fiesta Ecoboost V 2012 Fiesta 1.6

Featured Replies

I thought I'd share some initial thoughts about the comparisons between my former car (1.6 Fiesta Titanium) and the 1.0 125 Ecoboost Titanium I received last week.

Firstly, appearance wise, I love the new look. The front grille gives the Fiesta a fresh new look.

The Ecoboost engine takes a little while to get used to, but it is great. It certainly is zippy - acceleration is excellent. It is quicker off the mark than my 1.6- incredible for a 1.0! Gear usage is a bit different; the new car likes to wait a bit longer before going up a gear.

Despite claims, I think the MPG will be pretty similar.

The changes made to the interior are very pleasing. I like the improved phone controls from the driver's wheel. I am trying not to bang my elbow on the centre armrest! However, it is a good idea- valuables not on display, etc.

The Air Conditioning does not seem to get as cold when on its coolest setting. I am wondering whether this is to please the "keep it green" party. It's OK- coolish, but not the Arctic blast of air you could get before.

The fancy 17 inch alloys look great- well worth the extra money.

The free feature of automatically stopping to conserve fuel when the handbrake is applied is very useful indeed. I can see how this will save money in the long run.

I have managed to synch my mobile with the car, but as yet cannot "hear" text messages. I think this might be to do with my phone. The 'Emergency Assist' is something I think should be on every car as it would definitely save lives.

All in all, I'm very happy.

Does anyone else have thoughts between the older version and the newer one?

Pretty much agree with most of what is said.

Although just a note, the stop/start feature only requires the car to be in neutral and at a dead stop for the engine to switch off.

The gears took me a while to get used to, the 1.0 ecoboost seems happy to sit in 3rd gear at 30mph, 4th at 40mph and 5th at 50mph+. I get better mpg driving like this but not sure if this the intentional way the car is meant to be driven.

I don't think there's much in it between the 1.0T and the 1.6 to be honest. Both solid cars, good to drive and fairly economical if driven accordingly! Although £0 road tax is a bonus. And the joys of having a turbo!

Yep, no road tax is a definite bonus! I agree with those gear figures. I keep going up too soon at the moment and then thinking "umm, does not want to go yet!" Did not realise that about Start/Stop- thank you. I wasn't sure at first, but like it now. I find it odd that it is when the light is ON that the feature is actually off! The Air Conditioning light is much dimmer than the old Fiesta. Apparently, there's only half a second difference in achieving 0-60 between the 2 cars (9.4 in 1.0 125 and 9.9 in the 1.6, but it feels more than that.

Yeah I agree with you on the 1.0 actually feeling quicker than half a second. Probably something to do with the turbo as it kicks in pretty low down in the revs whereas the 1.6 has to be revved more!

I never use AC as I always prefer to have my windows down, so can't comment on the difference. Seems an odd thing to alter.

I agree about the Air Con and thought the same thing as I have used it abit recently with the decent weather we have had & I don't think it's as cold or as good as I have had in cheaper more basic cars

You may want to query the AC with your ford dealer, they have habits of only filling the systems half or 3/4 with gas when new to save time and money, and typical ford style would be to fill it to the minimum where it will switch the pressure sensor so that it actually functions, whether or not the warranty would warrant a top up would probably depend on how the dealer you use performs.

Interesting, Nathan. I might just do that. The answer to this is probably "No" but I'll ask it anyway; the faintness of the light indicating the A/C is ON, do you think the weakness of the light is connected to the low level of gas? My old 1.6 had a much brighter light and was definitely cooler.

Nope that's probably just the way it is the light will remain lit whether the system is running or not.

Thank you, Nathan. When the A/C is off, there is no light. When it is on, it is barely detectable.

I am still getting used to not actually using my keys with Power-start or whatever it is called. I get in, think "umm, where should I put my keys as I don't need them!" and then keep thinking I'll leave them in the car by mistake (not recommended, but I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world as I could press that magic button on the door!)

Part of the fun of a new car is getting used to all its little quirks!

By the way, in the summary notes that come with the car, it tells you how to get all the windows to come down at once (well, I would have thought just the front, as the back are not electric)... this was a hot topic of conversation elsewhere on the Forum. People didn't seem to know anything about it, but it is specifically mentioned and explained in the documentation.

Never heard of that with the Windows, I think you understand what I'm saying in that if you switch the AC on the light will come on regardless of whether the system actually works that just proves there is power in all the right places.

I misunderstood, but we're on the same wavelength now! I'll copy and paste the bit about the windows tomorrow. Thanks, Nathan (and others).
