paul_uk
The air con in my car doesn't kick in when I press the button. There is no drop in the revs and no change in the sound. I know that there is gas in the system. I assumed that the problem is the compressor and hence pretty costly but then I noticed that the engine fan wasn't rotating. That should be spinning when the air con is on right? Does anyone know if it is the broken compressor stopping the engine fan running our the other way around? jeebowhite
Hi Paul, the question is "do you have enough gas"? Basically, the light goes on when the switch is pressed - if there is not enough gas in the system then the system will not engage, if the clutch is seized then it wont engage. I had a leaky compressor which was replaced, that was about £300 for the part alone.
paul_uk
It was in fact the compressor and cost about £400 for a new part, labour and refill (this wasn't from a Ford dealer). Thanks for the help.
