Mk3 Running Lumpy

Featured Replies

Hi All, First post, I will introduce myself a little later as I expect to be using the forum quite a bit!

We bought a LHD MK3 TECHNO last year with the intention of driving it down to Spain which we did this week. My other half has been driving it in the UK for a few months with no reported issues! That probably say more about her than the car! she's been driving it around Poole and not really getting over 50 MPH. However, we got on the ferry on Monday, and, as soon as I got on the French motorways, the car starting hopping about at speed. Once we got over 60, after a relatively short time, the car would lurch as if it had either too much or too little fuel. Easing off the accelerator cured it and that first day, as long as we kept to 60 ish, no real issues. Made it a long day though. Over the next few days, we pressed on, even managing to get the car moving at 70, but there was always a feeling of it pulling rather than a smooth ride.

Its gradually got worse, yesterday, we arrived at our destination, and the car was jumping even in lower gears. We had some pretty big climbs to do which it did at a snails pace.

Love the car though, has character, handles well, quiet and seems to fit our needs if we can cure this issue.

My thoughts are that it needs a !Removed! good tune or that something like the lambda sensor is gubbed. I tried removing the cable from the lambda which just made it worse, though with similar symptons.

Any help gratefully received.

Salo

Ok, what am i missing? 44 views and no one offering an opinion. Do you need more info? Its a 1997, MK3 with a 1.25L 16V engine.

I'm going to get a new fuel filter and lambda sensor this week to see if that fixes it.
