Focus-Jonny
Hi folks, Just a quick question for people opinions. My car will be requiring new front control arms, should I go for genuine ford items or will non branded variants be okay in terms of longevity and performance? Get them fitted by a ford garage or take it to a small independent? There is a big price difference but I will pay for the better quality. Thanks for your replies! My car is 2010 focus with 30k so still young and worth spending good money on. Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
Andy199
Personally I always use genuine ford parts, not fitted at a ford dealer but a local garage. I just feel that if/when you come to sell it looks better with ford parts. I can't comment on the quality and longevity of aftermarket parts because I've never used them Sent from my C1905 using Ford OC mobile app
Focus-Jonny
Do you purchase your parts through ford parts service or online websites? Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
Andy199
The garage purchased them on my behalf and I received the receipts as proof. Sent from my C1905 using Ford OC mobile app
Hyrule
Genuine ford is ideally the way to go, and get them fitted by someone who knows what they are doing. Thankfully I have a mate who works in a garage who has been looking after my family's cars for over 20 years.
Focus-Jonny
Ahh right okay, thats great mate thanks! Anyone done the control arms on their focus recently so I can get an idea of what to expect for the cost of the work? Hyrule
Nah last thing I had done on my Focus was a service lol. Left him to it for a couple hours. Ask around different places to get a idea of price as each might be different.

angus5041
that answers a lot of my questions , as it was said if you know a trusted mechanic that's half the problem sorted, Do any members know of a mechanic who knows the focus inside out in the Merseyside area . I know a few local guys but I would prefer the ford guys which are cheaper than the ford main agents

Focus-Jonny
Yeah I would normally replace with ford or more superior parts, but with something as specialised as a front control arm I don't know any decent brands! I could get poly flex bushes but it requires a lot of effort to press them in and I don't have the tools or know how. I would rather just replace the arms so it sorts everything out at once. Ford quoted me £500 for parts & fitting is this a reasonable price? Does anyone have ford parts software that could price a set of oem control arms? Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app Seems expensive to me - try an independant/ garage/ mechanic (you could still buy the parts from Ford) (i used to work for Ford- all i ever use the local main stealers for is ocasionally getting some parts with my trade discoult, any work i dont do myself i go elsewhere, if i had a nearly new car (Less than 3 years) it may be different, though) Use Google!
