1.8Tdci Wont Start: Engine Systems Fault Error Shows Up

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I recently had an altenator issue, and when i replaced it, i now get Engine Systems Fault, and car will not start. Engine turns over but will not fire....

ON reading the error codes i founf one, P0299 Turbocharger Underboost, so i had a look around the piping to turbocharger/inletmanifold etc and found one pipe with crack, so i replaced pipe and cleared the error code. but once again when i tried to start engine turns over fine but does not fire. and Engine Systems Fault reappears - no other codes appear.

Any ideas, I checked voltage to glow plugs - and it is OK, They get 12-13V when ign on for few seconds.

When replacing the Altenator i had to disconnect some connection to Diesel Pump, maybe car is airlocked, but after 20-30 attempts to start im sure airlock would be gone by now, is there a way i can manually remove airlock, but fuel does appear to be getting to Injectors. when i remove fuel connections to injectors i get a fuel leak etc.

Any one have any ideas what i could check next, How can i check air getting into engine is not obstructed etc. what else could problem be?

any good help appreciated! nobody mention dealer as i do not have the money at the mo

Did you do the job yourself...?...were all the wires put back onto the altenator properly ..? would just check the wires..or if it's a plug..just make sure plug is firmly pushed in....otherwise find a big hammer and stand in front of your car shouting abuse at it ,,, just may shock it into starting...normally works for me..lol.(sorry just trying to lighten the mood)

What psi pressure does your scanner read on the fuel pressure when trying to start if it's around 4000 psi that will mean you are getting a good fuel flow as it will not fire below that .

sounds like a definate airlock, you will probably need to crack loose the pipe going to the injectors and you should see/hear air coming out, then try to crank again until diesel leaks out.

alternatively spray easy start into the intake only while someone is cranking the engine over, and keep your foot down on the pedal and hopefully that will force the air out.

dont spray too much as it will leave crap in the intake and throw up MAF codes

good luck

edit as stoney said its a good time to change the fuel filter too as youll need to bleed the system out after that anyway!
