MiltyG565
So how much does a place like Kwik Fit charge for an air-con recharge? I've looked on their website, and they're surprisingly cagey about the price. I don't really want to go in myself just to find out, because then they'll start giving me the hard sell. I was in Halford's earlier, and saw they sell a recharge kit "for just £30!". If Kwik Fit can take all the hassle out of it for roughly the same money, that would be great. If it's cheaper, even better! So has anyone recently been to Kiwk Fit for this? Or does anyone here work for Kiwk Fit (I won't hold it against you, I promise :D ) Cheers. Milton. jeebowhite
Kwik Fit, I last checked them a year or so ago and it was about £45 + VAT. Better off looking at local indies, mobile air con specialists, they are much cheaper.
gregers
kwik fit used to do a deal that if it wasnt colder then you dont pay??
jeebowhite
that was years ago, they got rid of that when they had to give too much money out 8-)

MiltyG565
ah ha,every days a learning day thought they were still running it? They are still running it. I checked the website. The thing is, I do want colder air-con, so if it's not colder, I've just wasted my time and diesel. Fair enough, I won't have paid, but I won't have air-con either. gregers
that may be the case, but im sure they will be able to narrow down the possible problem/s?.
MiltyG565
that may be the case, but im sure they will be able to narrow down the possible problem/s?. I'm pretty sure they'd try to get out of it somehow. If not, they'd find a problem that they "had to fix" and charge me a fortune for it. I've heard of people taking their car there for a service and coming back to be told their exhaust had a hole in it. Oddly enough, the hole was very clean cut and fresh looking. A rogue stone, or a rogue mechanic with a drill?
jeebowhite
More than likely the latter, they probably hold targets some places to see what work they can bring in Sent from my MY SAGA C2 using Ford OC mobile app
SeanW
Halfords Autocentres are doing free checks and will refill it for £29.99. They're also offering "cleaning" for £3.99. But if you want them done together, it's £39.99...hmm... Sent from my GT-I9300 using Ford OC mobile app
fordmad12
Wouldn't go to KwikFit if you paid me, sometimes your local dealer has a similar offer and won't fool you into buying replacement parts you don't need. jeebowhite
Nah they just hype the prices of things you do need lol some are equally as bad in a different way lol Sent from my MY SAGA C2 using Ford OC mobile app
MiltyG565
I actually found a local radiator shop. The guy peeked in through the grill and told me that the condenser wouldn't even hold the gas. So that was the end of that. He quoted me about £200 to replace it.
jeebowhite
not a bad price if thats all in!
jwc28
I'm always wary about Kwik fit and they're ability. Especially after watching watchdog. Don't let anybody touch your air con unless you notice a decrease in performance. I took my last car into a small independent garage to get a new track rod end on my car and my air con worked very well. The independent garage also owned another company kinda separate to his workshop which specialised in air con. Low and behold when I got my car back the guy said my condenser is leaking and right enough my air con mysteriously started not to work. Needless to say I won't ever take my car back to a certain garage in stirling near springkerse. The name was very similar to those klimakool tops that a certain sportswear company sells. Cowboy. stooge75
Just take aircon outta the equation.fit smaller belt.it's not like we need aircon in this country anyway.
MiltyG565
not a bad price if thats all in! That's what I thought. That includes all parts and labour including the air-con recharge, but it's +VAT, so another £40 onto it.
MiltyG565
Just take aircon outta the equation.fit smaller belt.it's not like we need aircon in this country anyway. Yeah, ok, thanks. That's entirely what I want to do when I start a thread asking about getting the air-con recharged.

MiltyG565
Check and make sure its VAT included! thats the best thing I can say right now! It's not. The guy said that. £200+VAT.
jeebowhite
so your looking at another £40 then unless you fancy trying to do the job yourself?
MiltyG565
Yup, post #17 mate ;) I don't really fancy trying it myself. My fitness isn't great right now. I think I'd rather pay for the convenience of having somebody do it, and that's without mentioning that he'll like do twice as good a job in half the time that I could
jeebowhite
haham fair enough, all I can say matey is phone around some mobile mechanics, they could do the job cheaper, as they have no garage overheads!

No need. My dad's a mechanic. But even he'd say to get this guy to do the job. The guy specialises in radiators. That's all he does. And £240 isn't too bad, so it's a no-brainer really.
