Fuel Addative

Featured Replies

hi all could any one tell me if a focus 1.6 tdci 2011 (new shape) has any type of fuel addative you must use as a mate of mine has a 1.6 tdci 2009 and he says he has to put somthing in a small tank every now and then.

Its not a case of something you must use, additives are there to benefit the engine, so treatments such as REDEX, Injector cleaner, BG244 will mix with the fuel and on their way to the exhaust pipe will help to try and clean the fuel and combustion systems (Another example is "Terraclean" but this is more a temporary fuel replacement system)

Also you can add treatments to the engine block (oil) itself in order to try and prevent smoking, or renew a little bit of life back to the old engine oil, likewise you could add it to the coolant in order to try and fix a leak or renew this system.

There really isnt a ford issued rule that says you must use X, as to be honest, they recommend that you DONT use additives, the amusing hyprocrisy in this is that if you take the car to them for a particular service - they will use additives :p)

so I wouldnt worry too much. Maybe ask him what he uses and why he uses it, and if you have more questions, we can look to help and advise exactly what the benefits are, and what alternatives there are to it.

I think your referring to Eloys .... i don't think the 2011 model has this system.... but i may be wrong and someone will correct me...

your right, anything after 2009 should not have the DPF, but the Ceramic (cDPF) variant which does not require EOLYS.

Sadly though, some cars did scrape through with the EURO4, so its possible that he did have it.

And apologies as I clearly missed the point and started referring to other additives, perhaps sleeping tonight might prevent this happening tomorrow!

Yeah, 2009 onwards as far as I know. Mine just missed it - Dec 2008 with Eolys. No probs so far though, don't ask me once I'm approaching 100K though... haha!

Thanks for all the replys and my 2011 1.6 tdci (that i pick up today) does not have the Eolys system on it so hopfully no scarey bills to come in a few years time.
