I know this is OT but having real computer trouble. My laptop has just got boiling hot I have turned it off it cooled down but now won't work without the charger being plugged in. It says it has 2% but is not charging.

Anyone help?

Sounds like a severe case of a naff laptop. ;)

perhaps the battery has drained itself somehow, just keep it on charge and see if things improve

what make model and age is it? leave it over nite to cool off and plug it in on charge tmw but dont switch laptop on. u should run ur laptop on battery as often as possible or the battery dries up and u get dead cells... other thing to do is remove battery, power up laptop, switch it back off and re insert battery some of them have a safty switch that cuts battery chargin if it detects a problem...

think we posted at same time lol, alot of people run them on plug 24/7 but it kills the battery! i use mine on battery most the time unless its flat and need to use it...

best to drain it flat 2/3 times a week... keeps ur battery life good

I charge it then run it flat everytime. Its under a year old but Matt pointed out it has been plugged in most of this afternoon as I got my new iPod to go in my car today and have been uploading all afternoon. Think it just got too hot but has within the last few minutes started charging again.

Many thanks for all the replies, what an awesome forum, advice in a matter of minutes!!

My laptop will last about 10-15 mins without being plugged in. I just keep it plugged in all the time now. I've had this lappy for nearly 3 years.

I buggered mine up by having it plugged in too much as well as the battery installed. It now over heats regularly and only works when plugged into mains, the batteries is completely fooked. But there again its naff anyway, has hardly any keys left where my son pulled them all off a year or so again grrrr
