Is there a thread on here where people put what their 1st Ford was?

I'd be quite interested to see.

For me, the first ford was a 54 fiesta Finesse 1.25 petrol. I bought it at 3.5 years old, 9k miles on the clock and picked it up for about 5K, was a fantastic motor but the mileagfe and small engine was costing me an arm and a leg!

mine was a 1983 MK 3 Escort 1.6.

Bought it in 1993 for £850

It was my 1st car. It was a 4 speed and went quite well, apparently it was an ex police car

My first Ford (and first car) was a 1996 Escort 1.4 LX,

It was 9 years old with only 32,000 miles on it, previously used as a mobility car with full history.

Broke down after 5 weeks after water pump went,

Didn't have Relay with the AA and it was a sunday evening, so I was looking at a £170 recovery bill,

Luckily one of the guys I was with that day had a 4x4 and towed me back to Leeds from Sheffield.

Plenty of repairs done due to the age of it, but it only gave up on me one other time when the 11 year old battery died.

Ended up at scrap dealers, it wasn't worth hassle of selling for £200 when I could get £130 as scrap.

Sad to see it go, but the car dealer picked me up from scrap yard and I drove away that evening in a Focus Zetec S.

52 plate mondy...had the clutch, injectors and starter motor all go at the same time! Needles to say I couldn't afford to get it fixed at the time and had to get rid :'(

I had a 2001 fiesta ghia and tbh it was a pile, dodgey gear selector and my 2.0 16v cavalier was better on juice! Got it cheap off a mate then px'd it and made a bit on it!

My first car was a G reg Ford Sierra. Marine blue (a.k.a. yucky dark turquoise)

Affectionately (!?!) known as the Sierra Jobsworth because it was more than my job was financially worth trying to keep the ruddy thing on the road!! It rattled, it leaked (a lot, you could follow me round London via the trail of oil) and it was only the paint that was holding the rust together.

It cost me £900 when I passed my test in my mid-20s and I had eight happy, rattle-y, leaky, rusty years with it.

I loved that old car.

I kinda miss that car actually, it was a great motor, just not so good for the family. I would happily have it back as a second runaround if I could afford it :p

My Mk3 Escort was a basic model.

My mate put a ghia interior in and i bought some cloverleafs to go on. added some front fogs and she was ready to go :)

it started to boil over so i got the headgasket done. this didnt cure it , so it was done again.

my mate was an expert, dont ask me.

turned out the cap on the expansion tank was faulty all along lol cost £10!

i had a clutch pedal ratchet go, what a carp design that was.

i ranted it about, had a crash, fixed or repaired it daily.

oh, and the cambelt snapped on a saturday. bent the valves.got a 2nd hand head out of a free ad paper on sunday morning. it was fitted outside my house in the rain. running by tea time.

carb always played up and so did the thermostat.

sold it to a workmate.

Good car that :)

Mine was a Mk1 Escort, bought standard then i fully stripped it out, fitted a full roll cage, bubble arches, 10x13" white Weller wheels, painted yellow with mexico stripes, 1740 x-flow coupled to a 1.3 gearbox, single box Ashley exhaust & 4 branch manifold, twin 40's, anti !Removed! kit, anti dive kit, adjustable TCA's, lowered 3" on lowering blocks & Capri 2.8i front struts.

Loved that car & would build another one in a heartbeat.

my first ford and indeed my first car was a 1.25 ford fiesta ghia, great little car, riddled with faults that i should of spotted before i bought it, but i slowly got them all fixed, and had many great memories in it. Still see the car daily as it was stored on my parents drive as a little run around for my dad, until a couple of years ago where we sold it to my neighbour

God, you lot are making me feel s-o--o-o-o old :)

My first Ford (and first car) was a 1956 Mk1 Consul. It was six years old, with 55,000 on the clock. It quickly became clear that it was on its second time round... Got through a pint of oil to every four gallons of petrol, the column-change gear linkage was so loose that a quick change could leave the lever in neutral and the box in third (top). Had to open the bonnet and tug the linkage at the box to free it up. More often than not the engine would then be most unwilling to start again. I was really popular at traffic lights :D

Mind you a bench seat combined with a column change was a young man's delight ;)

Eventually filled the combustion chambers with PistonSeal, flogged it for a quarter of what I'd paid for it, and went back to a motorcycle (an Ariel 350, for my fellow oldies), which had sat in the garden under a cover for several years. It started first kick.

Later Fords - a 1961 105E Anglia (maroon and grey) which ended its life in a ditch near Leighton Buzzard while giving my then-wife a driving lesson; a pale blue Mk II Escort estate, 1300cc and 29mpg on a very good day - went like the clappers*, though it could be interesting on tight bends if you didn't have a load in the back. Then a very, very long gap with other brands until we got the Fiesta EcoBoost in March.

My son had an XR2 which he loved until some bozo in a Transit minibus pulled out of a side-turning. Luckily the minibus passengers backed him up ("dunno what our driver was thinking!"). Also sat in the back when he was 15 as he took a Sierra Cosworth round Castle Combe with an Under-17s Car Club instructor ("No, keep it in third and your foot on the floor.") That was an interesting experience.

Thanks, Bob, for stirring up some great memories and giving us a chance to share them.

*Relative to similar cars of that era :D

You did have a few of the classics didnt you Neil ;)

Although if my wife put my car in a ditch, I cant say that I would be best pleased... You never mentioned how you reacted to that one :p

It's been said there are no bad pupils, only bad teachers. Since I was the accompanying driver and it was only her second time out...

A shrug of the shoulders since nobody was hurt and after that she went with a professional - passed the test first time.

"Lizzie" was on her last legs anyway, shock-absorbers shot, and the side panel flapping where rust had separated it from the boot floor. Amazing what the MoT did NOT look at back in 1970!

Total write-off and (IIRC) we collected the princely sum of £15 from the insurers which went towards a used Herald 13/60 convertible.

not bad at all, Herald at that time would have been about £35 - £50 in those terms wouldnt it?
