Annoying Rattle

Featured Replies

I've noticed a rattle coming from the plastic cover just above the rear view mirror. The car has only just gone over 2000 miles and I've only noticed this rattle for the last 3 weeks or so. Is this something anyone else has a problem with?

I'll try and get a photo of the offending "plastic thing", but I'm pretty sure it's the plastic cover just above the rear view mirror that's causing a rattle whenever the road is bumpy. I've tried stuffing some folded up kitchen paper in the gap behind it which helped a little but I want to fix it properly.

Does the plastic cover just pull off? It feels like it might break when I pull on it so I thought I just ask here before I go and break it. It should be the same as any other MK7.5 with the auto-dimming mirror and rain sensor (the rain sensor is covered by another plastic thing which seems to be connected to the one that's rattling).

When I first got my 2010 Fiesta (MK7) it was less than 6 months old and that piece rattled like anything.

Turned out one of the clips had broken, was all sorted under warranty though and never rattled again in the time I had it.

Might be worth seeing if your dealer can fix it under warranty.

I think that's the housing for the emergency assist gps, nothing to do with the mirror as I have it and don't have the dimming mirror. Mine doesn't rattle though, I'd take it to be checked if it's that annoying

Yeah I was thinking of taking it to Ford, I'll not bother trying to fix it myself, cheers :)

You've had it less than 6 months too so they have to fix it, plus I think fords own warranty covers trims in the first year also.

I have a rattle now, plastic surround from OSR seatbelt top anchor point, proper annoying, driver door card is starting to go now too.

Oh and Phil, is your handbrake crap? I have to yank mine through the roof just get it to bite, fully adjusted as well, it's just pants on mine and always has been.

Think I'm getting bored of the ST now, can tell as I'm fault finding everywhere and trying to find excuses, all this summer weather is making me want a convertible.

E46 330's are so cheap now too.

My handbrake is ok but not great, it did start to move backwards on a steep driveway once but I just pulled it up a bit more. I don't have to pull it through the roof, I'm not sure how many clicks though cos I hold in the button when I lift it.

I know what you mean about finding faults, this is my first new car and I'm still getting used to the fact that it's just not going to stay perfect.

Assume the ST has all round disks. My Mondeo did and it was crap at holding on the handbrake but my Fiesta has rear drums and holds on the first notch. Must admit I am very impressed with the brakes. Maybe you should get a drum conversion LOL :)
