Martin22
After reading a large number of articles and posts on the forum on the issue of alloys bucking it has got me slightly nervous about getting my new Fiesta in 2 weeks. I have the optional 17" upgrades on mine. How many people have had this issue with these alloys on the MK7.5?
Gary.J
Most of the problems were with the earlier model. Ford had fitted alloys with a softer composition and so they tended to buckle easier. Ford have changed the supply and the ones fitted nowadays are much stronger. I've hit a couple of potholes in my ST and no damage as a result, even though I've got the standard 17in low profile wheels fitted to my ST2
Clarky2013
I had the 17"s on my 2013 zetec s, I can tell you I hit some canyons in the roads and at speed , 80 some of them and not a single sign of a buckle in any of the 4 alloys. Had them checked a few days before the car was sold and each was perfect. I wouldn't worry too much mate v :D

Gary.J
Well this won't make you happy then. My 17s :( 1404429302399.jpg And how did you do that? There's no point in putting a picture up without any background information at all. Are they even Ford alloys? How long have you had them? How did the damage occur, speeds, depth/size of impact point, was it a kerb or a pothole etc?
Martin22
They look like the optional ford 17s, how did it happen? Pothole? Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
Willy
Ford upgraded 17" wheel, about 9 months old at the time of picture, covered about 8000 miles, hit a number of large potholes over the winter at 30 and 60 MPH (most in the dark) Any wheel is susceptible to damage so don't take any notice of what's being posted here. I only noticed the damage what I took my wheels off for cleaning. I didn't make any difference to the cars handling.

There is only so much you can do, the less rubber you have the more susceptible to damage it will be. Even then hit any wheel hard enough and it doesn't stand a chance, one of my colleagues managed to buckle a 14" or 15" steel wheel on her Fiesta because of a pothole. I have the optional 17" upgrades on mine. How many people have had this issue with these alloys on the MK7.5? No issues so far but I have changed my driving habits. Pay more attention to visible road surfaces as far in advance as my mince pies allow. I do not drive over speed humps dead centre as the inner trye wall gets pinched too easily. I now regually check tyre pressures all round.

Yep low profile tyres are far more likely to allow damage to the rims. Since getting my car, I've been keeping an eye out a lot more for holes and protrusions into the road. One, because I don;t want to see the rims damaged, and also because the ST has a very unforgiving suspension, so driving over a pothole feels like you've hit a brick, not the best sensation to have.
b1g_dav3
My 16's are fine, and I went through 9 on my last car, went back with 3 gone on top of the 9. Had 16's on that too.
Ru4hie
Think a lot of it depends on what the state of the roads are in where you drive or if you regularly drive on roads you don't know, so don't know where the pothole/craters are to be able to avoid them. had no trouble with the newer alloys ford have fitted the old ones pretty horrific though managed not to buckle the wheel had to replace a couple of tyres.
