Hi, I have a 1.6 TDCI and I would like a dump valve but don't really no what I'm looking for, it's just for the sound really alough it's a tiny turbo so won't even be loud.. I know there will be no gains. Can anyone recommend one to me please?

There is no dump/blow-off valve on a diesel.

Only thing you can do is look into the induction side of things so you can hear the turbo more.

Aww really? Any ideas then?

The only things I have read of use electronic switches to fake a blow off valve but the way a diesel works there is no back pressure which needs releasing, so a normal petrol valve will not work.

Do you really need a look at me valve though? Lol.

I would have thought you might want to just make it whoosh and growl more, at least then you are only enhancing the real noises.

You can improve the sound of the woosh of the air in, by looking at induction kits.

A dump valve on a petrol is the noise you get when you lift off the throttle and it let's a load of air back out.

There is no throttle plate which shuts off the airflow to cause back pressure in a diesel.

All the info I can find says diesels don't have them, even vag cars. You got a link to which engines?

Agreed, whether or not people fit them there is no actual advantage in fitting a dump valve to a (modern, VNT) diesel

if the VAG lot fit them it will do their cars as much good as furry dice or go-faster stripes - a "mickey mouse" modification

Ironically i have 2 fitted to my car, a recirculating dump valve that shuts the actuator down when i lift off/ change gear (so the wastegate is already shut when i go back on the power (reducing latency)

And an overboost blow-off valve that dumps any boost spikes into the atmosphere (adjustable) used for setting up, or if i turn the adjustable boost up too much, or to protect the engine if the boost control system(s) fail (whilst warning me at the same time)

EDIT - these are not regular dump valves, or conventionally configured.

But, if you don't have wastegate, and are not running a lot of boost, (that requires a large water-cooled FMIC) you dont need them on your diesel engine

Or a throttle plate, of course.

If you just want to make a noise just get an electirc one that makes a noise when you press the clutch -

no messing with the engine and you can switch it off when (oops i mean if  ) you get sick of it

Okay, cheers :). Is there any chance you could link me to a decent one?

done -(in post #12) its an electronic one, you might find a better or cheaper one if you look harder

best to avoid these -

look what i found-

(my guess is it looses power, due to loss of boost)

Yes, i've thought a bit more about it, and if its just the noise you're after, best to go for the fake electronic one, you could fit it to any car (petrol, diesel, turbo, non-turbo) and you can switch it off/ on - it just makes a noise/ is just a toy to play with/ have fun with

i agree with other members who suggested you do something with the intake/ induction, and possibly the exhaust, as the "hiss" is not going to sound right on an otherwise quiet car - needs a bit of rumble/ roar too, or the hiss will sound out of place

Yeah, I'll probably leave it tbh as I think it's a bit stupid having a fake one haha.

Yeah, I agree.. I don't think there's any induction kits out there for my car though, I've had a look.. Also is love to do something with the exhaust but insurance is the problem
