My St - Upgrades

Featured Replies

I'm not doing a thing that would affect my warranty. Just doesn't make sense as I don't have to cash to fix it if it goes wrong. If I was in a different situation and could afford it I would modify mine and make it into a beast,

Only joking, I would buy a gtr :P

Unless your mr (or mrs!!) money pockets then warranty is probably quite important to preserve. Then again it's down to the owner!!

GTR with Lichfield does 0-60 in reverse quicker than our motors lol - although we are probably faster off the line whilst they wheel spin!

Like the sound of these mods I'll be watching how this one progresses.

I agree... Wouldn't want to loose my warranty going to get the mp215 but the only thing that's selling that to me is that it doesn't affect the warranty if it did would be a big no no lol I'm holding out on all mods at the min till after I've been to ford fair and seen a few others do things 1st (learn by others mistakes :P)

Great post :)

Dude when are you going to the ford fair? Deffo take as many snaps as possible and ping them up here! Would be great to see what others have done! I don't want to be the guy who makes mistakes lol!

Thanks :)

im surprised people are so willing to potentially junk the warranty with these upgrades....doesnt make sense to do that. after 3 years, sure go to town if you really must (I wouldn't) , but give up protection against potentially very costly repairs for a bit more power on an already well sorted and performing car?

no thanks.

100% agree with this, we have plenty power with the upgrade to keep or warranty. I still can't get over my insurance company, only £70 extra and I've only been driving 3 years!!!

(Granted I've had a sports car in the past!)

Warranty keeping is the main thing for me :) might trade in for the new one next year.... ;)

I'm currently thinking of my modifications to the ST...

I'm considering getting her up to about 250 - 270bhp for now, some mountune brakes (or other large kit, as Mountune only offer front brake kits), coilovers, short shift bits and bobs are a possibility, and then a clutch to match the upgrades. Also thinking of some bits to stiffen the car up, braces and such, anti-roll bars, etc. Possibly a diff but I'd see how the power feels first. This is going to be through to around next summer.

Or, ditching the ST and going with a 2.0 Ecoboost from a Focus in another Fiesta, possibly then doing the bits to make it look like the ST and all supporting mods.

The ZS is getting a tuning box this week also :P

Are you loaded lol?! ;)

That's a lot of upgrades, I did read an article and once you start getting over 250 break you have to have a lot changed! Not only breaks etc but you'll need the gears and the "brain" adjusted! Sounds like a good but very costly project!

I would suggest doing a lot of homework :) good luck!!

To be honest various bits in warranty only write off the corresponding parts of the warranty. So some modifications don't do much to base warranties. Plus I have a good friend who brakes cars so it's not all too expensive :P

Sold my other projects off, so I want a new project now lol. The ECU should be fine, it's not mountains of power more anyway. Turbo will need changing, aside from that there aren't any huge changes. Homework is done, parts lists are drawn up, just want to judge what's going to be better; the Focus engine will be a lot more powerful but the weight might throw the balance off.

Welcome Mike, that's a nice looking ST :)

It will be MR, they never do 2 MP kits for one car. I reckon MR240.

They did 2 MP kits for the last ST: http://www.mountune.com/index.php/services/performance-upgrades/fiesta/fiesta-2005-2008

Of course I wouldn't be surprised if the new stage 2 is an MR, if it is I'll get the MP215 and wait til my warranty runs out before thinking about doing anything that will void it.

Well said, the ST isn't really a car that needs modifying much, except maybe the headlights which is the only thing I'm thinking of changing at the moment :)

Changing the headlights to what Phil?

Rago to all this, srs wouldn't mod it just yet, at least give it a good 10K on the engine and a few oil changes etc

Lol at modding the gears as well, any Fiesta owner who can afford a custom built gearbox is driving the wrong car, may as well go and buy a 2001 911 Turbo for £18K and not have to worry about being a power !Removed! and chucking loads of money at the thing for ultimately less than a second off your 0-60, cheaper to sell it and buy a Mint Focus RS and still be quicker and handle better than the Fiesta ever will.

But because want to I suppose.

I meant the bulbs, just for looks really, either HID kit or just new bulbs with a whiter light.

And I have to agree with what you're saying about spending too much money on upgrades. I'd definitely buy a faster car instead if / when I have the money, but I can understand a lot of people enjoy putting a lot of effort into modding their cars, not just for the end product.

Thing is with Modding cars, you should go all the way, None of this Pony pre made pack crap, Should invest in Forged internals, huge Turbo, ally intercooler, bigger injectors, Smaller cams, Massive downpipe to get the crap out quicker and bespoke mapping and see huge power returns, people got Clio 172s up to 330+ BHP going down this route, you'd get all that done for around 5-6K and would smoke anything that Pumaspeed and Mountune would make, none of this Air filter and bluechip business.

A lot of it just seems half assssed to me, I get the Mp215 pack as it's cheap, but anything more is a waste of time and money imo for what it is, especially as it's all that crappy, poorly made Milltek exhausts they are using, worst welding around.

You honestly have no clue do you??

I have a miltek exhaust and it's wonderful.

What you don't seem to understand is that not everyone buys a car to be the fastest guy around and modifications aren't all about making your car the fastest thing on the road!!

My car has raced and beaten civic type rs, arbarth 500, Astra VXRS and a good few others with a lot more power because it's so well set up!!

You should do some research on modifying cars before giving any more 'advice' (also known as trying to be a cocky smart a**!)

Sorry hun but your claims are massively exaggerated. Miltek zorsts are poor and overpriced I'd take a piper any day of the week. Marketing does wonders for Miltek. As for racing an astra vxr it was broken or not trying. No NA 1.6 is beating a 240bhp car unless you've chucked 10's of g's at it. I call custard on those claims.

Sent from my SM-N9005 using Ford OC mobile app

Also why would you bother a while back saying you're getting an ST if it's so fast??? You'd clearly smoke an ST if you think you can beat megane RS slayers.

People if you want to have a debate like this please message each other, this is about upgrade options. As much as everyone's opinion is valid and appreciated everyone is entitled to think what they want.

Thank you :)

Have you ever had a miltek or a piper exhaust lol?

You present your opinion as though it's fact but I'd be extremely interested to hear the extensive list of modifications you have on your car which makes you an expert? :|

I was getting an ST but instead I got a house.. The reason for both those decisions? I wanted to!

My car has never been up against a Megane lol. Lost to a clio 182 because again, it's extremely well set up lol, my OH had an RS which had no mods except a K&N filter and a KMS thunderstorm and my car kept up with his in the bends lol.. not all about power!

You can't give advice on modifications and whatnot based purely on your personal opinion without any substance at all

Also, a bloke asking about upgrading a car a little bit probably doesn't want to hear about how much you hate modifications that don't involve completely changing the car

Miltek are actually pretty good, a lot of company's use them including some pretty big ones, I don't think they would if they were junk.

As for the 'pre-packs' as you put it, it's an easy entry for people to get decent figures from their car, without having to change internal components, bolt-on's are quite good in this respect. Don't forget for most people they're road going cars and occasional track toys, and they want to buy the packages to make their car what they want. Yes, you can go forged internals and such, but do you need to for a bit more fun? Plus a lot of people don't have the confidence in changing all that in their car, or the money. There's a lot of work in it.

Does it really matter what people do and how far they go, as long as they enjoy their car? >_>

Back to the upgrades talk and a littler update from myself:

Mountune is booked in for the 22nd but I do have my regrets already...! I am on holiday from 15-29 I feel as though I'm not going to be able to "notice" the upgrade so much, you all know that feeling when you haven't driven in ages and 30mph is super fast?! Just hope this isn't the same with the Mountune as I'm away for 2 and a bit weeks!! - those who are interested I'm going to Turkey ;)

I have decided on my return as I will be back just in time for payday, that I will invest in a front splitter - my question to you people, where and how much? Links please!!!

I also did treat myself to a private plate - basically my sure name on a 14 plate wooo! Everyone loves it apart from the misses wooops!!! Won't tell her the price ha ha ha .

Without kicking off another debate I have also found the alloys I would like - best get eBaying some of my dad's junk to afford it, anyone interested in a MG Midget chassis?

In totally unrelated sad news, my work car was borrowed last weekend and the bugger blew it up!!! (When I was single it was my chat up line - my other car is a Porsche, worked once and now I'm stuck with her - Doah! Btw she didn't have a clue what a Porsche was and has no interest in cars - although she wants a white fiesta, but she wouldn't be able to say the make or model just "the white one of yours like your old back one" ey?! - give her the eco boost 1.0 I think, she likes to go fast!

Quick summery whilst I nurse this dreadful hangover - anyone know where to get the front splitter from AND/OR is there anyone against a front splitter, not for ascetic looks but for other reasons like it's scraps and could rip your front bumper off (lol - I live in the country side poor roads!).

THANK YOU ☺️

Triple R composite do really nice splitters! I'm sure mountune also do one but could be wrong.

Depending how low your car is it could scrape on the floor going over bumps and the like but I highly doubt your car is that low so you'll be okay

Thanks Becca!

I'm not planing on lowering so with any luck it won't scrape!! I don't know what I'm more excited about 2 weeks in the sun of my car getting done whilst I'm away :)

They scrape a lot if lowered at all >_>

They look awesome though, so if you're not lowering then all is good :P

Mines lowered 35mm, no splitter and it's never scraped (except some plastic thing on the underside) but I reckon with a splitter it would or it'd be dead close!

But I guess if you put the splitter on first you'd know how much room you have?

Sent from my SM-G900F using Ford OC mobile app

I went 35 on my previous ZS and had the splitter and it scraped on car parks and speed bumps and such :P
