Rear Caliper Issue

Featured Replies

Hi all finally got around to finshing the conversion this weekend and must say was easy dispite me trying to rush it a few weeks ago and got calipers on the wrong way, lol. Well i changed the hoses yesturday and then went to bleed them start driver side rear first, confused to find that when i undone the bleeder nipple nothing came out, when i pressed the pedle a few times. So i done a little test and undone the rubber hose from the caliper and hay presto brake fluid came out. So the fault lays with the caliper it self, question is are they easy to rebuild or shall i just ebay a couple of off these? I have no time scale to do this as the car is in my garage as i only work on it weekends. Or they cheap to buy new??

Forgot to mention, i open the bleeder valve and tried to push/pull on the caliper to see if any fluid would squirt out and it did so maybe could be the carrier?? Cheers for advice

Any advice guys??

Reconditioned calipers are the way to go. Rebuilding them is fine but getting reconditioned ones means they have been blasted and are generally spot on looking.

So you get fluid out of the hose and if you push the piston back you get fluid out of the bleed? That suggests there's a blockage between the hose connection and the interior of the cylinder. Maybe some dirt has got in there and been rammed home by the fluid pressure.

Yeah from the caliper side of the hose, so whats the best way to clear it? I was gonna give it a blast with a can of compressed air

What happens if you close the bleed, leave the hose off and push the piston back? If there's enough fluid left in the cylinder that should push out anything that's blocking the channel.

It could possibly be some rubbish in the copper pipe or the rubber flexible pipe has broken down, if you remove the caliper and expose the pipe and press the peddle does fluid come out, if it is the caliper reconditioned is best way to go

Ive tested the copper pipe and fluid pushes out when press the peddle, the rubber hose is a new one, and remove the hose from the caliper side press the peddle and fluid comes out. Ive put alittle pressure on the cyclinder by pulling on the caliper thus pushing the pad on the disc and pushes the caliper back and i get alittle dribble from the nipple?? Just abit confusing

Sounds like your caliper is at fault, try removing the bleed nipple and put a block of wood to stop the piston coming completely out and then using compressed air or brake cleaner spray in the inlet side and send if there is a blockage in the caliper or could be a faulty bleed nipple

There new bleed nipples and can blow thru them, when i get home after work i will try the close the nipple remove the hose on the caliper side and try pushing the cyclinder back in abit see if it clears anything. I have still got the car rear end up in the air on axle stands.

How did you get on, my other thought I had today is there a lot of flow or just small amount as might not be enough pressure to operate the caliper

Hi im gonna try it tonight hopping to get an early finsh from work. What im gonna try is do up the bleed valve jndo the hose from caliper and press the cyclinder inwards and see if this does anything to unblock it. If not ebay there is someone selling a pair recons for £130 next day delivery.
