Water Collecting In Rear Numberplate Bulb Holder

Featured Replies

Hello again,

So, I am changing my number plate bulbs on the boot. One holder is still nice and clear, the other is a brownish colour. When I took this brown-looking holder off, some water trickled out with it

My boot is dry, so I don’t think there are any major leaks there. However, does anyone have any idea where water is getting in so that it collects in the bulb holders?

A search doesn’t return much, other than significant water ingress to the boot (which I don’t have...luckily)

Everyone on FOC has been so helpful so far, can you help again?

Thanks in advance

Hi Steven,

Was it brimming with water, or was it a few drops in there?

the fact the water was brown would suggest that water has been sitting there for a considerable time, in which case it could be a badly fit part around the area has allowed an intense rainfall to disturb it and its just took a few drops in.

Best thing to do is dry it off then put it back on, get the hose and hose down the area of the bootlid and see if you can get water into it, if it stays empty its probably nothing to worry about, if it fills up then you will need to remove the grab handle portion of the bootlid and try track down the source of the leak.

Not sure if Ford have had some issues with the rubber boot release button in the tailgate finisher letting water in?
