Key-Fob Issues

Featured Replies

Right lets try this again.. Typed it all out and then browser crashed... great start.

Please be easy on me as this is my first 'real' post. Picked up my 2009 zetec fiesta a couple weeks back and I love it. They only supplied one key however and its falling apart. They have kindly offered to cut me a spare key however will not cut me a full replacement radio key. Looks like i am going to do a bit of DIY and try this myself. The key I have now is a three button fixed key, however I would like to change it to a flip key. I found this thread and would like to copy. However I am all confused on what i need to do. Could I just buy a new key, such as this and and transplant the transponder chip from the spare they supply me with. Or is it not that simple.. Will my fiesta be able to lean this keys radio signal?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, On some other forums its bad form to bump old threads..

Thank you very much

Matt

I would by the flip key and take the transponder out of the fob that is falling apart and put that one in it. Alternatively buy two and take the chip out of both your current keys. It is pretty simple. I just did my Father in Laws Seat Altea which uses a VAG key obviously but they are the same.

Thank you, Will do that. Was just worried that the fiesta would not recognise the flip fobs radio signal, or something like that...

Cheers

Has anyone else tried this? If so some feedback would be great! Thanks

First thing I did when I got my car was to source a flip key so the original ones could be kept safe.

Buy a new complete flip key off ebay and contact a couple of local auto locksmiths for quotes.

I have a tame one who did my key for £20 (cut, coded to immobiliser and programmed to the central locking).

He only covers the South West though.

You can get keys for about £25 and locksmith will be approx £45.

Btw, been using the flip key (non OEM by the way) for 3 years with absolutely no problems.
