Another Interior Light Question/problem

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I have a 58 plate 1800 Zetec and took off the plastic cover to the interior light to check the type of bulb fitted (it's a 501) as I want to fit an LED light bulb. When I put the cover back on the delay no longer works and the light stays on. To confirm, it goes off in the off position and stays on in the delay and permanent on position. When I took the cover off the grey switch fell out, so I just put it back and the problem started. Does anyone know is there just the grey switch in the plastic cover or has another piece fallen off, i.e. metal contact? The switch in question has 2 copper prongs sticking up from it. I have footwell lights in the car and they go out after 12 seconds or so as normal and as the interior light used to.

Many thanks

Tony

Hi Clive

Thanks for your reply. I took out the complete light unit and looked at the back where the copper prongs go through. I noticed that only 1 prong was touching the contacts, the other was just missing. I must have bent it slightly when putting it back.

Thanks for the pointer.

Cheers

They can be a pain.

I put LED panels in my light recently (ambient type) and to get the lens off I needed to remove a cover over the switches.

Bits went everywhere but luckily they only fitted back one way.

For future reference, the correct method for removing/changing these bulbs is:

Flat head screwdriver prise down the unit on the windscreen side,

Will drop out like this:

Turn the unit around,

You will see black bulb sockets,

Gently turn them half a turn anti clockwise and lift to extract and change bulb:
