Heater Vent Surrounds

Featured Replies

as title does anybody know how to take of the silver rings that are around the vents please as I may have a plan to do some thing with them.

cheers

They just clip onto the vent /duct nice and simple.

But I can't see it being possible to get them off without getting the ducts out of the dash first unless someone's managed to find a way? once the vent is flush to the dash you just can't get in there to release the clips.

You can see the clips top left and right in this photo

Ive got a spare set I had thoughts of doing something with but don't know if it's possible then to get the ducts out without taking glovebox, headunit and rhs lower dash trim out to get to the back of the ducts and release their clips etc.

I have taken mine off without taking out the vents. If you get a knife and lift where the tabs reside they come out pretty easy. Had to take one off when i had a liquidnair freshener explode and it stripped the paint off the surround.

On another note if anyone who reads this has a spare silver vent trim/ring in silver they would be happy to flog me let me know. I don't think you can buy them separately, i think they are sold as part of the vent.

PM'd ;)

If anyone does go as far as buying another set of vents just check prices on ebay first, some places sell 1 vent for the same price you can get a full set for. I got slightly caught out as my set were advertised as ST ones but it was only much later I realised they didn't have the silver highlights on the vent up and down bit - only really got them for the surrounds so wasn't too fussed. Could have sworn the pre-facelift versions had a more shiny finish than later cars?

Related to this, is it possible to get the whole vent out of the dash without getting access to the back of them first?

You need to push down two clips on the roof of the vents.

You can just see them if you tilt the flaps half down and use a torch to look into the vent.

Use a couple of small screwdrivers (watchmakers style are best) and push them into the small slits you will see and the vents just pull straight out.
