    Its for attaching to the drivers floor mat to stop it sliding around. The Ford ones come with the holes in it to clip it to

    It looks pretty mangled.

    To remove it just turn the whole piece through 90 degrees and it will come out of the slot hidden up under the carpet (can't remember if it's clockwise or counter-clockwise).
