Erratic Dash Board Lights Causing Issues With Radio And Indicators

Featured Replies

If it has issues with the new gem when you move the connector then you would have to replace but the amount of work to do that is a pain. You would need to removed battery, the disconnect the engine bay fuse box, disconnect the connections from behind and follow all the way to the green connector and pull it through the firewall. Sounds easy but not really.

Thanks mate , hopefully the new GEM will be here tomorrow so I can give it a go and see if I can get away without changing it.

Take a pic for us. We should be able to see if you would need a new one or not.

It looks fine as you can still see the pins. Use the grease you should be fine.

New gem fitted but as expected now have a central locking issue , anyone able to help in getting it working please ?

Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

If you have the elm cable you can do it yourself.

Or try the register new key trick one sec.

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Ford OC mobile app

Insert the ignition key and turn from position II (Ignition) to position 0 (All off) and back four times within three seconds.

Remove the ignition key. The locking control system is now in "learn mode" for the next 20 seconds and the red warning system LED (By the clock) stays on continuously to indicate this.

During the 20 seconds press one of the transmitter buttons. The remotes signal and code number is learned by the locking module and is indicated by flashing the warning system LED.

Wait until learn mode times out (20 seconds) or switch the ignition back to ON.

All working now but had to unlock and lock the drivers door !?

Anyway took the car out for a spin and with 10 mins the erratic dash fault has reappeared. All I can think of is maybe the connector block ? But I've tried wiggling it while stationary and it doesn't re create the fault :-/

Did you use the silicone grease? Is the replacement gem in good condition? And all connectors in. You could check engine bay fuse box fuses 1-6 and check they havnt popped . But most likely the connector is to far gone.

Still awaiting the silicone grease to arrive from the postman. I've wiggled the wires on the connector and it's creating the fault , but I suppose it could be internally damaged with wires arcing rather than loose ?!

It is arching as you can see it from the other gem. So the water just shorted circuit out making things act erratic. But the grease short sort the arching out but the grease still needs the pins to make contact.

Think I ll try the grease , give it a run and if no better then it's going to be a nice re wire

Ok so thought I'd put an update on for anyone else who may suffer the same issues. Used silicone grease in the connectors in the GEM but still had the fault and for some strange reason I didn't think it was the damaged connector. Noticed on Saturday evening the needles had started to wobble before going into position , so I decided to do the cluster repair with wd40. Since doing it I've driven 70 miles without any faults at all. So fingers crossed I've solved the issue !!! :-)

So your instrument cluster was the issue. Doesn't sound like a common cluster issue. But touchwood your all sorted.

Seems that way. It's not done 70miles in one trip without doing it for a long time.

Although I'm glad I found the GEM issue !!

Taking it on holiday next week so fingers crossed.

Another update : drove over 120 miles with no problem then picked my partner up from work and within a minute of her being in the car the fault occurred!!! So I then thought I can't ever remember having the fault when on my own. So went out for another drive with her in the back for over 20 mins no problem. Stopped in a lay-by and she got back in the front. Within 30 seconds the fault happened and it happened another 3-4 times within the next 2 minutes. She got out and I then drove another 10 mins with no problem at all. Could the occupancy sensor be faulty or am I sounding stupid ?

Is she kicking the fusebox?

No thought of that one straight away. I've wiggled and banged if with no effect. Even told her to keep her feet away just incase but no difference.

Could be the occupancy sensor then, worth a look.

Try buckling the passenger seat belt while the seat is empty and go for a drive.

Sent from my SM-G900F using Ford OC mobile app

This all sounds like a faulty wiring to the GEM or the GEM itself.

Does the car detect someone in the seat without the seatbelt on.
