Rough Paint After Respray.

Featured Replies

I resprayed my rear bumper today after the Mrs had a fight with a bollard.

The paint has fully dried and is now feeling really rough.

Is there anything I can do to get the glass like finish?

The process I used was.

Wet and dry sanded it with 2500 grit.

Let it dry.

Paint prep wipes.

Primer x3 coats.

Paint x3 coats

I never got round to the laquer as time ran out.

Any tips to get the smooth finish back would be wonderful.

The finish may be down to the car being too hot while you were spraying.

You need to flat it back, then laquer it.

It was extremely hot today. So that would make sense.

What steps would I take to get it back?

Wet and dry till smooth then laquer?

After all layers of primer and (metallic) coloured paint are applied you should end with a few layers of clearcoat. My experience is that you get the best result if the clearcoat is applied when the last layer of coloured paint has not dried fully (wet on wet). The solvent of the clearcoat will partly blend into the coloured paint and give the shiny smooth finish.

Personally I prefer to use 2K clearcoat which is much more durable/stronger then normal 1K clearcoat.

When you say clear coat do you mean laquer?

Sorry to sound dumb. Lol

Yeah, clear coat is laquer.
