Focus Starting Problem

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. my focus has started having a problem where it doesn't start. Battery and all obvious things are fine. it doesn't happen at any particular temperature or whether engine is hot or cold it seems completely random. basically when the car doesn't start there is no sound from the fuel pump. there's no flashing alarm light, no management lights and no fault codes. There is no blown fuses or anything. Are there any sensors or any thing else that could cause this problem? Completely puzzled. Thanks guys

Check fuel pump. If it isn't making a whirring noise when you turn the ignition on then it could well have packed up.

Fuel pump could be seized. Do you ever run the car with the tank very low? Also check the earth connections at the battery are clean.

Hi guys thanks for the replies. To the first post, that's the problem that I have is that the pump doesn't work. but then other times it will fire straight up. I always keep it topped up with a decent amount of fuel.

I've also checked the battery earths. the problem is basically sometimes the fuel pump works fine other times it does nothing

What's the mileage? Sounds like the pump is on it's way out:/

It's done about 110k. Actually had to leave it parked up last night because it wouldn't start. Went there today fired straight up. Really annoying! I think it's time for a new car! :/

Could be a bad fuel filter? if the pressure has equalized then it could be why it started straight away today?

Jeebo I had thought filter. could that cause these symptoms? That would be the cheapest place to start I would imagine? Because of the nature of the problem I just wondered if there was a sensor or something. Although I was heading for the sensor tbh

It certainly could, and it would also explain if you had any random revs, slow dropping back to idle or cutting out before the real starting issues occurred.

If you havent had it serviced of late its worth doing it anyway, the filters are relatively cheap!

I have a spare one here for my CMAX, if you pop your number plate into Euro Car Parts and let me know the part number that comes up for the Crossland fuel filters, if its a match you can have mine at a cheap rate!
